I am bored of cleaning the house so I am day dreaming :p

If you could have unlimited money/ land what sort of yard would you have and how would you run it and what sort of horses would you have in the stables? Pictures would be great :P

I would have huge stable which lead out to a field, so horses could make their own minds up. And in them would be my own herd of Gelderlanders, mares and foals in one set and a stallion in another. I would also like to have a solarium and shower box. Oh and a really posh tack room.

Actually it is quite modest.
FDC

I wouldn't have a massive yard in terms of number of stables, but I'm with FDC on the stable/field choice thing (as they do most places in Germany that I've seen!). Would love a huge arena so I can have more huge-striding horses without doing a wall of death in canter :D And with arena mirrors so I can see when I'm being crap. And with VERY high fences so my knobber can't charge through them. Would run it as a livery yard as love the company/social scene of the small livery yards I've been on - and have a really nice, light, airy room for liveries to sit and drink tea (or beer/vodka ;)) with heating for the winter.

A solarium would be lovely. Along with some sort of huge horsey play area - loads of toys/games/pools for splashing in, sandpits for digging up (that don't then have to be levelled just to be ridden on ) etc!

Would have Knobberts, of course, and then would get another Cleveland Bay or two, a Clydesdale or Clydie x, a Shire x, quite fancy something posh (Hannovarian maybe?) as a contrast... and then some naughty wee *****lands and a couple of Connemaras.

Would use left over money to make myself smaller and skinnier so I could then ride the Connemaras!

We have this chat all the time at our yard. Apart from boring things like more grazing land and a nice big indoor arena, on our wishlist are:

- undersoil heating that could be turned on to prevent the mud
- an undercover walkway to the fields for the rainy days
- a conveyor belt along the back of the stables to the muck heap so you can muck out directly onto the heap
- heated pool (for us)

I have my eye on a place down the road that while not over the top would suit my purpose, it was on the market but taken off, would still be available, if and when I win the lottery.

It ia about 50 acres (so could do with more land), has a lovely 2 storey house in that yellow/gold stone type finish.

It has 12 largish size stables with breeze way, huge amount of room. The stable block has two fully self contained flats for grooms/ visitors. There is an indoor arena but only 40 x 60 m. There is a number of stable and yards. A lovely number of dams etc.

I would add a 60 x 20 outdoor dressage arena and a 40 x 70m out door jumping arena, together with cross country jumps. (Assuming that they needed to be added, they may have something along these lines out the back.)

Fairly modest in my wants. I think they were asking over 2.5 million for it. They established it when there son looked like becoming a showjumper, and also bought him a $250K truck, but he lost interest.

Alternatively, absolutely stunning several thousand acre polo property up for sale, with farm, polo fields, bed & breakfast, all included. Not sure what they are asking.

OOO good ideas I like the heated soil one :P

Ok my ideas are to have
-like barn type stables which open out onto yards so the ponies have hard standing and then tracks to the fields which you can also ride on.
- I would like old fashioned stalls with the posh wrought iron tops for washing down, plaiting etc.
and a covered walk way to the indoor school which will look like this

to avoid Aberdeen winters.
- a nice gallop or canter track with a hill
- off road hacking like the forest tracks in Spain and nice actually quiet lanes like the French chemins and near the beach
-a lunging ring and a jumping paddock with coloured and practise xc fences
- rolling fields on sandy soil
- space for goats!
- oo and i like the pool idea too but it might have to be a hot tub here

I really love where I am now... but as it's a fantasy...

... I'd like to magically turn the outdoor sand school into an indoor one and have another 10 acres of land that doesn't get boggy at all in the winter. :D Oh, plus a bigger tack room as I have a huge amount of stuff crammed into the 6ft wide one! :p

I'd have what we have now which is my best friends field, I share her shire x and then another friend of ours keeps her two horses there. It is a lovely location and atmosphere as we all get on so well. It is very quiet and peaceful :-)

Two things I'd change would be....

1) more land so the horses could definately live out all year, and a field shelter.

2) To keep the horses we have now but to have our two mares back that are now deceased. It was always going to be their field and we miss them.

Apart from that it's perfect :-))

Addition of a nice comfortable bedsit to stay overnight if horses are ill - or if we fall out with OH.
Bedsit to have a well equiped kitchen and internet for browsing horsey websites.
Horse rug washing machines and dryers.
Cleaning lady to keep bedsit clean.
Cleaning Lady also to do ironing we bring from home whilst we ride.
Cleaning Lady also to use bedsit kitchen to cook lovely meals to take home to our families at the end of the day (with the piles of ironing) so no-one knows we spent all day riding.
Large yard lorry with luxury living accomodation so we can all go on funrides / horsey days out together.

I FORGOT THE HORSES!! silly me I would like a dutch WB (the one I saw on horsedeals that was such a pretty sabino colour), a lovely big grey irish or clydie x hunter that the OH could also ride, an arab or hispano arab because I would love to wake up to them playing in the field, a couple of young ex racers that need a quieter life oo and a welsh section c for driving and children maybe just far to much choice and I am horseless :(
