My horse is 15 but acts like a proper baby, i've had him about 2.5 years and previously had never done any jumping.
Not last summer but the summer before I started doing a bit of polework and little jumps with him but he found it very confusing and didn't have much confidence. Had to ride him very positively and he was fine but ran out at doubles and was quite dangerous and as I was usually on my own decided to have some lessons. started with tina goosen and had a couple of really good lessons but then she went to olympics and for one reason or another didn't continue due to ill health then moved counties!
usually if you start the session with proper pole work and stridings, lengthening and shortening and then add in small jumps he's fine but if you say school then decide to pop him over a fence at the end then he has none of it! When I took him round the fields I would always try and pop him over a small log which sometimes was succesful!
Probably haven't done anything for about a year and i would really like to as I think he enjoyed it and its a bit different for him and me. would need to so it at least once a week i thnk to build his confidence and the repetition. Moving yards soon to a SJ'ers so hopeing they will help me out/ recommend a trainer as want to do it properly rather than ruin his confidence or build bad habits.
Anyway OH came with me to yard last night and brought video as was planning to school. When I got there place was completely deserted so decided to seize the opportunity and do a bit of fun loose jumping!
Didn't really plan it so in retrospect I realise I didn't really help him as had a straight bar with no ground line but he seemed to manage ok!!
Please ignore by crazy shouting 'good boys' he takes a lot of confidence from the voice but its quite cringeworthy lol!
Popped him on the lunge for 10mins to warm up and then he had a mooch around and sussed out the jumps:

Then he had his first few goes:

Elliott then decides to take the camera man out while I'm altering jumps! then a few goes the other way:

The last grid which I was really pleased with so decided to end on a good note....but then he decided to keep going on his own lol! really made me giggle...

No harsh criticism please as it was his first time, impromptu and just for fun!
Thanks for reading - sorry it was long but thought i should explain the history! I was super proud of him and he seemed to enjoy himself
