Am off on a 'Fun Ride' next Saturday!

Fun for who, I am not sure!!!! My horse is a bit 'have to be in front' so am hoping

a) I will stay on
b) It will actually be fun

Tips?

However, with YO/RI's words of ' horses only know what they have done', and as this is the type of thing I would like to do with him - in an ideal world I would like to hunt him, but guess this would be a good first step - I am going to have to strap on a pair and get on with it!

Love sponsored rides! Hope it isn't bucketing it down for you though.

Tips - maybe try a stronger bit, martingale and neck strap if you really are in for a hair raising time. If you're going in sensible company, that should also help, but we ended up riding with a load of excitable mares for 20 miles and I couldn't believe they could sustain that level of nerves, rears, bucks and jogging. Whilst my boy ambled along wondering what the fuss was all about!

Great practice ground for hunting as well, although slightly less hairy than on the field, does give you a good idea how they are in open spaces and with other horses, hoepfully not people whizzing past you at full speed. Maybe put a green ribbon on your tail for those who do hunt, to know you are on a newbie horse and to be extra careful.

And I tend to ride in a BP if I'm jumping.

Am sure it will be fab fun. Which one is it? Am off to Bluebell (if I remember to sort out our entries!) which is coming up next weekend I think !

You'll be fine I'm sure!

Must admit I'm not the biggest fan of sponsored rides - I find them a bit stressful - but I have had some really fun ones all the same!

Have you got a set starting time already or can you go when you like? My advice would be to go either at the very beginning or end of the day - means less people to catch up on/overtake you, and less kids on ponies bombing around out of control.

Generally, if you have any doubts about holding him I'd put a slightly stronger bit than normal in, and a martingale is always a good idea so you've got a neck strap to hang onto if he gets a bit keen!

Keeping moving is a good idea too, particularly on a type that gets hot - so passing people at appropriate places so you don't find yourself stuck waiting for them to go through a tight space or over a jump is a good idea.

Sure you will have a lovely time! if in doubt, just kick on and enjoy it!
