Not outright funny perhaps but slightly amusing. Saw a nice-looking horse (LW warmblood, SJ'er) advertised at a certain dodgy dealer that we know so well in Essex, rang the number and his accomplice answered. She said the horse had already been sold (I only rang an hour after the ad appeared on horsemart) but that she had another just like it, that would suit me down to the ground.
Duly trekked down there the next day and got shouted at by said accomplice for being 20 minutes early (!), then told to go and see the horse for myself until she'd finished her breakfast. I went into stable, this carthorse (warmblood x ID) turned on me and chased me out fo the stable. Accomplice then turned up, there was some ruckus (sp?) going on with a youg girl who was trying to get a refund on an unsuitable pony.
Accomplice said she doesn't bother grooming them as she sells them cheap and quick with a high turnover, knows no history on them. Anyway, trying to keep my options open I asked to see it ridden. It was the worst plodder ever, and barely made it over a 1 foot jump from a standstill. It's hind leg had no bend at the hock - talk about post-legged.
Trying to be polite I said I'd need a second opinion and the accomplice pretty much grabbed the horse off me and said if I wasnt' experienced enough to decide on my own, then I wasn't having any of her horses, that the chap I'd tried would be sold within hours and that I could have it vetted if I was really desperate but i should be able to see what's wrong with it myself.
Needless to say I walked off laughing and thought how lucky I was to have experienced such a thing!
Two weeks later the SJ'er I'd wanted to see was back on horsemart as having failed its vetting
