Funniest things said/done by non horsey other halves...

Not oh but my 13 yr old son, I put the headcollar on charlie, jack had the leadrope so I said clip it on please and just nipped in the tack room
Came out and charlie was grazing unclipped near the field gate
Said to jack why didn't you clip him on
Well I tried to but he rugby tackled me!! :-)
 
Hubs was totally non horsey when I met him. He's now awesome with mucking out, picks mine both out in a crowd, handles youngsters that deck me, fills the fullest haynet etc he's pretty good with rugs too. Randomly he will come out with names for things I have no idea he's ever seen before, like the 1st time he handed me a martingale when I asked for the neck strap with rings on it and he handed it to me and said 'here's ur martingale'!

my mum asked for what I would like for my birthday and I replied money towards a few riding lessons would be fantastic, reply 'what do you need lessons for surely there is nothing else to know you have been riding for 25yrs?'
I did not get lessons and it has been over 20yrs since I have had any in the saddle lessons so really want to be put straight (literally).

Glad to hear I'm not alone!
Last summer my non riding OH decided he would vault on to my 17hh 5 yr old loose ISH. I said try it, thinking he wouldn't make it. Oh he did make it in some fashion and the horse never moved an inch! I've never been so jealous and proud in one moment before. Now if he's left alone for any period of time the OH can be found sat bare back on said horse. Apparently the boys need to stick together!
But honestly I wouldn't be without my OH he's great with all the animals.

May have just had a minor sniffle at that video. So lovely!

The chestnuts thing seems to be quite common :D Monty's owner's OH turned the boys out one morning with strict instructions to put some cream on Rocky's sarcoid. I came to get them in later and Monty's legs were covered in the stuff! So not just wrong horse but entirely wrong part of the body :D
 
My OH has never been interested until I got D, he even led him out in hand over the summer as long as I looked for traffic because as he said you can't lead and keep an eye on traffic at the same time!! ;-)

Also at my request that he stop letting above pony stop and eat every five seconds his response was well it's his walk too........... Yes but the whole point of walking him is to keep weight off him, not put it on ;-).
 
No gems from my OH a as ive trained him quite well :) however my mum (who's a big dog lover) dos say to me once 'oh, look she must be happy as she's wagging her tail at you' about my mare who was being pestered by flies! ☺️

My mum who hates horses, and knows nothing about them, declared 'That horse looks like it has had a hard life, you shouldn't be riding it' upon first clapping eyes on Dolly (thru her car window I might add!) lol!

You mean the Numnum? My dad calls them this even though I don't own one and prefer saddlecloths. I haven't the heart to correct him as it sounds super cute.
 
My old boy was particularly opinionated and arrogant, especially to handle. One day when OH was relatively new on the scene and trying to impress, he was dragging me a out a bit. OH, as the burly rugby player clearly saw his chance to prove his manliness and offered to lead him (despite having no experience)as he "wouldn't be strong enough to do it to him". I've never been more pleased with or proud of my boy as I was when he immediately took OH concrete skiing before flicking a shoulder to knock him off balance and take the opportunity to leg it while OH was sprawled across the yard. I howled for about 10 minutes and still chuckle thinking about it 15 years on!
 
In a conversation with my OH, I can't say numnah. If I do, he spends the next 10 minutes repeating "NUMNAH!" at random intervals to wind me up *rolls eyes*
 
Oh this is so funny!! My OH had never so much been near a horse before he met me so been a steep learning curve, I must say he still would never choose to spend time with the horses (particularly in the winter) - he prefers horse power to horses, but he does help under duress at times. Most adept at water buckets and wheeling the wheelbarrow. Also very handy for putting in electric fence posts. He occasionally videos me riding so I can go back and watch and criticise my riding.. Not too long ago I was doing shoulder in down the long side and he yelled out behind the camera "do it again, angle is too steep"... I nearly fell off the horse! Seems like my incessant babble is starting to pay off!

It's been four years and he still insists on wrapping the lead rope around his hand, I have tried until I'm blue in the face to tell him not to do that to save his fingers.. I think he thinks I am being a bit OCD.. Sadly I have had the broken fingers that taught me this painful lesson!! My little one stood on his foot - because my OH was checking his phone and not paying attention - and it was the merest of steps to be fair - and you would have thought someone had amputated his foot off. Two years later he still refers to Charlie as Evil Charles.

I moan about him being not very horsey, but the other day when tucking the boys in at night he was stood looking at my big boy over the stable door when he asked me "why doesn't he come give me cuddles like he does you" my heart did melt a little as I tried to co-erce my boy into tearing himself away from his haynet for the benefits of male bonding.

I find anyone who doesn't like horses to be frankly quite odd but I suppose it must be equally odd to our long-suffering non-horsey OH/family to put up with our tales, smells and obsessions!

So the yard owner sees him coming in from the wrong field with the 17hh highly strung eventer that no one apart from the owner can usually handle - walking behind him like a donkey on the end of the lead rope.

My hubby's explanation was he knew my horse was 'orange' an they all look the same anyway. He also seemed to think it didn't really matter as long as a horse was in my stable!!!
