My new lovely horse came with pink/mottled skin around one of her eyes, the vet didn't seem fussed by it and didn't mention it but it was quite noticeable and unlike a horse who has pink eyes or piggy eyes. It's not on her eyelid, this is black (she's bay) and is just the skin surrounding the bottom of her eye.

However, when she first arrived it was FAR more prominent and the eye had much less hair surrounding it compared to what it has now. She has never itches it, it's not weepy or anything and seems to go through phases where there's more hair then less again. Anyway, someone told me it can be stress related and is like the horse form of alopecia. Where she came from wasn't nice so this is plausible. Anyone elses horse got an eye like this or had any experience of this alopecia myth? I don't mind it, think it makes her even cuter!!

P.s tried to post a picture of it and failed :(

My horse had alopecia totalis ... Very rare - was. Presented at the international conference of vet dermatology... But his skin looked normal - he was just bald . Maybe horses can get vitiligo which this sounds a lot more like ...

My old horse had vitiligo. The skin round his eyes and a little round his mouth was pink/white simply due to the loss of pigment.
Nothing to worry about.
