My boys got lumps on his chest, largest just smaller than a 2p piece, smallest like a swollen pin-prick, he also has a few on his near hind thigh and both ears but no-where else, he's at grass with a rug but its been cold and wet so dont think it's a sweat rash.

I started feeding top spec complete balancer, cool condition cubes (also top spec) and alfa a and sugarbeet about 6 days ago. During last winter he was fed a bit of mare and youngstock mix (D&H), chopped mollassed chaff, sugarbeet and barley and he had no-reaction to that.

Anyone any ideas?

Are they hard or soft? They could be fly bites, he could have been through some nettles (one of mine got smothered in lumps from running into nettles) or it could be a food allergy, have you got pics??

Could they be protein lumps? Considering the significant increase in hard feed, perhaps this is his body's way of excreting the excess protein. Is he having grass as well? How much work is he doing? Do the lumps go like donoughts when they go (ie go down in the middle to leave a ring which then dissipears)?

We had a similar problem with a mare a couple of years ago. We just had to make sure her diet was faily low protein and they never came back.

I nearly died this morning, went to field and his legs all puffy and swollen and on his body you could barely put a pin prick between the lumps. Anyway, called vet out and he says it's either a fly bite/sting or he's munched a plant in the hedge that hasn't agreed with him so he's had a steroid and anti-histamine jab which should sort him out. Poor lad's miserable, so's mum

The lumps are flat and round, no dipping. He's a real mess. I'm absolutly gutte but at least he should be ok now, going back up to see him in a bit.
