Father in law made me pmsl today.
"Novice" dog owner,he has had them a long time but isnt really any good with them although heart is in the right place and given some time to think about it and pretend to himself it was his idear all along he DOES take adivice.

So...today he was talking about his cross.
Dog has 1001 issues(mainly due to him not being snipped and being mostly border collie that has nothing to do due to FIL's ill health ) most recent being an outbreak of fleas after the dog went wandering

*Dog fleas are completly different to cat fleas and ONLY cat fleas bite people.
*Dogs that have not been snipped know there owners dont want pups so dont mate(OK,THAT one makes me made not laugh

*Dogs are all the same,had one you are capable of having ANY and there is no difference between breeds.
*wormers kill fleas too,the drug companies just want you to buy two products to make cash.
 
*itches* yeah right!

-shoving a dog's face in a pile of poo will teach it not to mess in the house.

-neutering makes males 'less of a man'/fat etc etc etc (only men ever say that, funnily enough....)

-German Shepherds and Alsatians are a different breed, often the former being exclusively long-coated.

-Feeding obese dogs all the crap of the day, whenever they demand it, proves how much you love them.

My uncle last week: "X's puppy (white GSD, for which they paid £250) doesn't want to go for a walk.
Me: Why?
Uncle: I don't know. It just drags its feet and won't go.
Me: What age is it?
Uncle: Ten weeks.
Me: WHAT? Is it even vaccinated?
Uncle: I don't know.

Now this one is weird - I know several very experienced GSD people who think that puppies born with spots on their tongue always turn out to be stunners - I told this to my Mum, laughing, and she agreed!

Not a myth or a saying as such but the funniest thing I've ever heard was an elderly lady in the street pointing out my BLUE BRINDLE WHIPPET to her small grandson and saying

"look dear, a white alsation"

Don't know if it fits the theme of this thread, but several years ago I went past a group of children, looking like around 5 years of age. One boys says to his friend : Look a shaved Lassie! And points at my Smooth Collie.
But I was sort of proud he spotted the breed, more or less, right since she was a Tricolor.
