I was shocked on Saturday as my lovely orange pony, who can usually be relied on to be a complete sweetheart, decided to have a very VERY naughty day.
I got to the farm and walked into the stables and nothing seemed to be out of place. Until I opened Asti's door to find she's pulled her turnout rug off the door, dragged it across the floor and trampled it into a pile of poop and piddled on shavings...
Just as I turned to tell her off, she knew the little witch, and made a run for it, charged the stable door open and legged it across the yard... straight into the farmers garden field which we don't use as its too wet, plus its part of the garden.
So there's the ginger horror running round, leaving divots and gouging skid marks into the lovely neat greeness, and absolutely refusing to be caught despite threats of pony-barbecues and big sticks. So I had to go for a bucket and feed and caught the rat.
Boxed her over to hack out with Guisbrogal so I could avoid our farm lane in case her foot was still bruised. We did have a lovely ride despite problems up one steep hill which was a bit stony so I got off - I was wrecked after that! GG came over to see the ponies too and has survived meeting Ivy who was on best behaviour for once. GG does not believe us about the Spawn Of Satan behaviour!!!
Well yesterday, Asti was behaving a bit better, so we thought we'd try teaching Ivy long reining another way as she just doesn't get it bless, unless someone walks at her head all the time. So we tacked up Asti and Byter and G put tack and long reins on Ivy and we set off in convoy and it worked! Ivy can now long rein quite happily up and down the lane and it has clicked once she followed the other horses! Whoooo, major improvement.
Then to finish off, G got on her and rode - totally unaided - along the lane and part of a field track and back, still with Asti and Byter for company - but no one leading, just G grinning like an idiot and steering, stopping and starting all on their own.
Cannot believe how nice the spotty oik was behaving. She is loving the work and attention!
Of course we managed a photo or two...
Ivy says... "see, me and Asti are best buddies really..."
Asti replies... "not likely, get away from me you furry pest!"
