Funny smelling horse

Amymay - I don't think that is the source, the mare would have to have pretty good aim to hit him and it would rely on them having got his away from grass for long enough to get him to come close enough!

Smellsofhorse - wonderfully apt name for this particular thread! He was shampooed fairly recently, out 24/7 mostly naked, but occasionally with lightweight sheet with the usual levels of dirt having seen a spring/summer of intermittent use, but by no means filthy, owner spends ages grooming and keeps tack/numnahs clean so don't think its his stable care that is making him whiffy. Only thing I could think of was either him simply having a distinctive smell or his garlic supplement which I think he is on all year round.

I'm really curious now. I'm going to have a good sniff of the other horse as they are both fed the same (ruling out the feed/garlic supplements as a potential source), sniff the other field mates (ruling out something on the grass they are rolling in) and if he's the only one with the slight aroma of armpits post curry, I'll ask his owner if he's noticed it before and if he has if he thinks it's become stronger recently.

...That is if I don't get sectioned for wandering round the yard sniffing peoples horses!

Yep, when I got my pony he stank. He had what I can only describe as pony BO. He was really fat and they didn't believe in washing him. Anyway after transfer of ownership he got a huge wash and now smells normal, he also lost a lot of weight and I've never had the problem again :)
The sad thing is that he loves being clean and tries to keep himself clean once washed, which is fab as he is grey!
