funny squishy blobs on side of nose!!

right, this is a post that I've ummed and ahhhed about doing as the horse in question is not mine! but rudey and I have been mulling this over for a while now. One fo the horses on my side of our yard has two large, very noticeable bulged either side of his nose, wither side of the 'nasal bone'. It's sqashy to touch and doesn't seem to bother him but he was having nose bleeds when he was on grass.

#I've never seen it before and wouldn't know how to approach the owner about it but just wondered what people think it could be? if I could get a sneaky pick I would!!!

Someone else had commented to me quite a while back about this horses swollen nose asking what I assumed a cause to be. I think unless you ask his owner if it's okay to post a photo, I wouldn't do it sweet xx

It was difficult, because without seeing him or a photo of what his nose looks like, you don't appreciate what the swelling looks like. I saw this lovely horse the other day. He seems a really happy chap in himself. I had wondered if he had some sort of allergy, but I am unsure. He didn't appear to have any breathing difficulties (have no idea if he does when ridden). The swelling is probably where a cavesson noseband would rest across the front of the nose, either side of the nasal bone, if you can picture that?

I just googled it and as a symptom the search engine brought up strangles and Big Head Disease. I very much doubt it is strangles, as he has had these swellings since bought several months ago, and so I am told, there is no change in the swelling. The swellings aren't anywhere near his throat and he wasn't displaying discharge from his nose. Amongst other things, he has mixed with two herds of horses, and none of them have this problem.

Big Head Disease may be a possibility, but I'm not a vet and have no experience or knowledge in this subject, just read this link and thought it could be possible. It's a vet job to diagnose and treat. http://www.mitavite.com.au/mitavite06/PD...n%20Disease.pdf

Just did a quick search on nosebleeds and it may not be something serious from what I read, but it depends on the circumstances of the bleeds. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/care/402/71931.html

Problem is, do you tell his owner your thoughts or not? Catch 22 job - she may appreciate your advice and help, or she could be really offended thinking you're sticking your nose into her business! It makes me wonder if she would be upset other people discussing it. Urgh, what do you do? xx
