Funny tactics to avoid co-operating - what does your horse do?

I was reading a post earlier about strange horse behaviour, and it got me thinking about the strange things horses do to avoid co-operating.
What does your horse do?

I've started you all off with foal tactics!
We get some who will try anything to avoid doing what you want them to.
First try and bite, knees are a great target.
Failing that, jumping around sometimes catches them off guard.
If that doesn't stop the stupid humans then try standing on your hind legs and aim for the face or head.
If you still have a human attached, set your neck away from them and Run!!
As a last ditch attempt to rid yourself of a particularly determined human, throw yourself on the floor, preferably with feet towards them.
Taking out a humans legs during this exercise makes them quite angry, especially if they land on top of you

If that still hasn't worked, chances are that you won't get your own way, and it's best to co-operate

Horse in my lesson last week was a total barsteward...he's a big lad and they put a novice on him.
The minute she took her feet out of the stirrups for an exercise, he cantered off 'knowing' she would be able to do bugger all about it.
She came off and after ten minutes of persuading her to get back on, she put foot in stirrup to mount, he did a side-step worthy of Strictly Come Dancing and tanked off again when she was halfway up.

He got such a talking-to afterwards....

My pony stops to wee, at the same place everytime I hack out......ONLY when I go UP the road ( steep hill!!) NEVER when we go down the road. He does it everytime we go into the school; stops half way through the gate. He's done this for four years, its hilarious!

Pip has so many

. On the floor the main one is stop dead, and point blank refuse to move. If you push him off balance sideways, he circles further way. If you use the whip tries to kick you back.
Ridden and driven we have been through everything. Bucking, Broncing, taking off (only ridden

), rearing at every stand, rein back at every stand, totally hollow, with hackney steps, cantering every turn, pacing every turn, being totally dead on one side, and super sensitve on the other, 360% turns when you try to stop him trying to be so one sided, flying extened trot everywhere, huge neck bend but no bend through the body. And his all time favorite, work nicely for a few laps and trot, or canter, stop dead, and put your head down to stracth you knee, always puts you off balance

Foals have the best tactics! As they get older they seem to realise it's more about cunning than an all out attack on the handlers senses

My girl will doesn't use many evasion tactics, if she wants to go faster than I'm letting her she cross her jaw and poke her tongue out but it's more of a drama than actually trying to achieve much! She does like deer leaps one hack but again, it's not an evasion I think she just wants to make sure i'm still awake!

F will voice his opinion quite strongly when asked to do something he really doesn't want to do - he just doesn't actually refuse to do it!

So when asked to wait while his friends gallop off into the distance, he will stomp his foot from as high in the air as he can manage, go sideways, backwards (but quit when asked) and generally get very het up and "threaten to rear or bolt" (he has never done either and has no intention to)
grin.gif

That would all be on a loose rein of course!!

When asked to leave his mates he will do so, but be very vocal about it - singing is his preferred warble!

When I trying to wash him or squirt him with fly spray, my boy squashes the side I want to get to against the wall! Its impossible.

In the winter when stabled. I come along with his tack to ride first thing. He wont let me catch him in the stable. He just turns around and points is arse in my face. If he has had his breakfast and a hour in the field then he is quite happy to be ridden! If he could speak he would say thats his routine and he wont change!

My mare can reverse as quickly as she goes forwards, however will not reinback when asked. She also thinks it is quite fun to half pass down the road rather than walking in a straight line
smile.gif
She also has a trick of sticking her tongue out if she thinks I am holding her back too much, not an evaision, but a statement.
