When I was hacking out on The Old Loon a male person on the pavement said "Oh - it's a bit bright, isn't it?" He's a very bright, very shiny chestnut. I agreed he was. At which point, Old Loon stopped short and deposited a huge heap of steaming poo very near to their shiny shoes. He never usually did that, preferring to march on, performing as he went. The male person reversed at speed and shouted abuse at his bright, shiny posterior!

After once thanking a lady for recalling her dog, I was told they wouldn't usually bother putting the dog on the leads but as I was wearing high-viz I was obviously a nervous novice 🤣

She seemed surprised when I told her the high viz was so we didn't get run over on the roads. I mean, we were in the middle of a forest but we don't actually live there so ...

I've been stopped by two Policeman to ask if my pony was wearing trainers too..Yes, he essentially was!

Me and my friend were riding through Askern a couple of years ago and a woman walked past us and said it's about time you lot put an appearance in, it's a pity you can't be bothered to show up when they're about.

She thought we were the police, we had hi Viz on and were on big horses so I suppose we could have carried it off.

Another time we were riding same village a load of young lads who we were approaching jumped up and legged it while shouting get out of here it's the rozzers! No idea what they'd been up to

not my horse but there was a shetland at the yard

lady - aww, look at the baby horse!

lady then asks me how old is it?

its 22.

a 22 year old?! is it dwarfism???

I had a piebald cob and a piebald mini shetland and more than one person thought the mini was the cob’s baby. Shame the cob was a gelding!

When I first got Bobbi, she was a bit of a porker. She lost a fair amount of weight and we went on our first pleasure ride. Small child on pony looked at us and said in a loud voice 'That horse is very round isn't it?' 😂 I'll admit, they weren't wrong...

I used to ride with my friend on her 16h ex-deventer (Bobbi is 13.3). A lady who's house we used to ride past once asked her 'Do you look after that little girl on Saturdays?' My friend was very confused and said 'What little girl?' 'The one you ride with.' said the lady. My friend was horrified, she's only 4 years older than me. 😂

What funny/mortifying/downright weird things have people said about you and your horse?
When I bought Bailey, her passported name was USA and she had no 'stable name' as she'd come over from Holland. So I racked my brains and looked up Dutch girls names to try and give her a nice name.
I was completely lost so opted for Bailey, I think Dad actually suggested it at first. Then when I met friends at the show grounds over the course of the first few weeks of owning her they were asking me if she was Irish because of her name.

Had loads of people over 17 years ask if I am a policewoman on a police horse due to Bailey being big and me being tall and decked in lights and Prolite hi viz, even had a police car drive past and the passenger copper saying that I looked 'very bright and sensible' - I think he was referring to my hi viz and not my personality 🤣🤣

Went to a "Working Equitation" Clinic last Friday; the Instructor asked us all to introduce our horses. There was three of us there (from the same yard, we shared the workshop and worked as a group).

The Instructor got to my little mare and asked me to tell me about her. I said I'd had her since she was a 4yo and she'd come just-backed and I'd ridden her on (pony is 10 now), and the Instructor just looked her and said what a nice eye she had, and she could see she had a "big heart" to go with it. I just collapsed into my hanky, well sleeve actually. Yep I know she's a little sweetheart and yep I know I'm damn lucky that she "found" me basically (coz she did), but when someone who's obviously canny around horses picks this up it just makes you go a bit leary.

It was a great clinic. We've done TREC before, but this was different enough to be refreshing.

I ride (my coloured cob) through a village housing estate, right past a local play park. The local preschool often takes the kids (aged 2.5-4) there to play.

They are usually quite excited to see us go past and call out.

Going past once we got the usual… little ones running to the fence and pointing. One of the older ones was calling out, ‘a horse! A horse!!’ All fine… I smiled and waved.

A smaller one then ran up, ‘LOOK A COW!’

🤦‍♀️

My Haflinger gelding always got called she, I assume because of his long golden mane.

When I sadly sold him, I had a man call to enquire and offered me double the price if I could deliver him that day for his daughter’s birthday. She wanted a Barbie pony and the plastic one they’d bought her hadn’t cut it! The answer was obviously no! He’d have probably killed her within the day
