Well i had alot of replies on my previous thread, so thought id give you a bit of an update tonight, for those of you that didnt see the previous thread you can get the jist of it here

Anyway, Lloyds is alot happier, back to his naughty old self (oh joy lol), his skin is much improved, we do still have a way to go with his weight though, but it is going back on slowly but surely. Anyway, a couple of pics for you.

OMG..that's terrible, are you taking any civil action?

I'm never going loan out any of mine again after seeing what I've seen on here.

Well done, you're doing a great job, poor horsey.
 
Omg I didn't see your original post, I think it's disgusting the way that people treat loan horses these days, I have my mare on permanent loan and as far as I'm concerned I am so privileged and I treat her to the very best, at all times. I am so gutted your loan didnt work out and another loan gets a bad name. There are some genuine people out there I promise.
 
he looks much better, he looks like he could do with worming? and sorry to be picky but it looks liek you are feeding barley rings, try soaking them and adding a bit of alfa a oil in with them, he will eat/digest them much better.

i know its heart breaking but at least you got him home xx

Sadly, the rescue organisations and authorities still seem to have little power in some of these cases, there is a horse near us in a bald field full of droppings... and I would say thinner than your little chap was then. It has been reported and officers have been out, but they have been told the horse owner is away and that the horse is alright because he was "a champion" - whatever that has to with it. And it is so frustrating because noone has helped it. Makes my blood boil. Keep up the good work!!

silly question, have you wormed him, as in one of the pictures looked a bit pot bellied. or that could be the way he is built.

either way still a grand job
 
He's looking much better - well done you. Let us know how he carries on to improve. Second the worming looks a bit wormy - although i think you said last time you were going to worm him so ignore that comment if you have :) Other than that its a great improvement considering it was only a few weeks back

Do you know what happened to the goat pony?

Yes hes been wormed, we used Panacur 5 day Guard which is what the vet recommended, we have noticed his belly & was actually going to put a post on here & ask about it...felt a bit of a numpty so didnt, he does windsuck & wondered if it was something to do with that? Yes he is on Barley rings with Alpha A oil & sugar beet (he wont eat them soaked).

Muddygreymare, im really sorry i dont know what happened to the goat pony :( the RSPCA never bothered getting back to me again, no surprises there!

Hmmmm, May be worth getting a worm count done. The reason I suggest this is because in my area there is resistance to the panacur 5 day guard.
 
I wasnt aware that there was resistance to it, we did actually do him with a normal wormer before hand & then when we had the blood results back the vet said to do him with the 5 day one as well. Ive had a bit of a look up on the net & bloated bellys do sometimes go hand in hand with windsucking, so i was wondering if it was this rather than worms? A worm count is something i will look into.

you are not a numpty for asking it could just be the way he is looking at the moment, or the sudden intake of food giving him a swollen belly look, I wouldnt worry to much at the moment. best of luck with him, shame about the goat pony, how about calling RSPCA for an update?
 
oh he looks heaps better and he looks happier too bless his heart.

Cannot for the life of me understand why people let animals suffer I really don't makes my blood boil.

Will be waiting for another update soonies too :)

bless him he's looking so much better:D those first pictures actually make me feel sick, they are awful to look at.

He certainly looks better, keep it up!

We have also recently learn the bad side of loaning, though not actually with a horse we own. We had a lovely horse on loan for 5 or 6 years (she belongs to my godmother) and she was then passed on to another loan home in 2009. In May this year she was removed from this loan home by WHW and RSPCA as a welfare concern... the loaner signed the horse and others over to WHW when they didn't even belong to her! It's taken weeks and weeks but on Thursday we managed to get her home to my godmother. She has put on 105kgs (that's 16.5 stone!) and still has some weight to gain. We are furious as you can imagine!

At least both this story and yours have a happy ending. :)
