I have one and it is awesome, esp winter to summer coat. I only bought the cat and dog one as they are pretty expensive. Worth it IMO.

It basically pulls the dead hair from the coat, it doesn't pull live hair if you see what I mean. Infind it helps with keeping K's coat cleaner and helps him shed his winter coat better.
 
I have a dog one and a brand new horse one (which my mum has displaced unused?!?!?!?!?!??!)
I think they are brilliant at getting the hair out when other brushes and shedding tools have finished.
Funnily enough my brothers wife is a hair dresser and he thinks the blade is the same as a (human) hair clipper.
Definitely gets the hair out, although not suitable for every type of coat on dogs and i'm sure some horses would find just too uncomfortable.
