Oliver was seen today by a fantastic vet, who listened to everything I had to say, read all my notes, etc. He within minutes confirmed he has a slipped disc, and his panicking and disappearing is running from the pain. It will be catching his breath and he will have no idea where the hurt is coming from. So, a bottle of metacam and antiinflamm injection later, he is home, tearing Phil the Pheasant to shreds (a post vet present). If he has any relapse at all they will xray, and have taken bloods today just to be safe, but was very confident that after a couple of weeks 'controlled' exercise and medication later, he will be right as rain. Phewwwwwww. And thank you all for your posts. x
 
Oh that is great news (well, not so great for Oliver I know, but...) I didnt post on your original thread because I wasnt sure what I could say... but this is fab news, something which is tangible and can be sorted out, and hopefully Oliver will start to feel better soon

Fantastic to hear he's okay.
My mum had the same thing and was crippled after being pregnant with my sister. An operation later (12 yeas ago now) and she's had no major back problems since!
Hopefully all goes well with pooch too!
 
That's great news - I was following yesterday but couldn't add anything helpful. Glad to hear it's nothing dreadful.

I'm not glad that he's ill, but I'm sure you understand when I say I'm glad to hear it is what it is, something likely treatable.

Yesterday I wondered if I should answer your post with my vague thoughts of the cause, but since I had a feeling you maybe where worrying about it being something like a brain tumor, I wanted to point out that my first thoughts about possible causes did not include cancer.
Actually my initial thought, when reading the beginning of your post was an insect sting, but since it's not exactly insect season and it happened again indoors, I dropped that thought. I'm mentally telling myself some well chosen words now, a disc problem is really something I should have thought about, especially after thinking that it sounded as if something bit him.

Hope his back feels better soon, I'll echo you and others saying Phew!
 
Ah thank you all for such kind words. Oliver is wonderful this morning, his eyes are sparkling again, and he was very impressed with his sausages and mash dinner. Sadly, Phil the sqeaky Pheasant met his bitter end at about 8am, having lasted nearly a full 14 hours we thought that must have been a record. Thanks again. x
 
Just want to add my relief for you that it seems to be sorted. It is always so much better when you know what you are dealing with.
as others have said, I didn't post yesterday as I had nothing constructive to add, but was thinking of you and your dog all day
 
Me too! Am so glad to read that your lovely boy has a treatable illness. You must have had an awful time worrying about him last night. Huge relief!
