Has anyone got any ideas what I can tempt my fussy Cushings mare to eat? She will eat her Topspec nuts ok on their own but I need something wet too so that I can mix her meds in. She was ok for a while but gets bored easily with food and now won't touch sugar beet, or Fast Fibre or the new one - Calm and Collected I think.

The trouble is I don't want to feed her alfalfa, grain or molasses although I did wonder if a small amount of molassed chaff would be ok - just enough to get her to eat without causing any problems.

Any ideas appreciated

I avoid molasses, but alfa beet has worked for me, and is considered ok for lami horses. My mare won't eat wet feed if chaff is mixed in so I know how frustrating it can be. Are the meds water soluble?

Try sprinkle of fenugreek, it wont add calories and my horse loved it. (it was the only thing that would persuade him to come in from his delicious field! You could mix it with the mess and maybe a handful of chaff.

My fussy good doer doesn't like many feeds (hates garlic, alfalfa, sloppiness etc) and he really likes Mollichaff Calmer. It doesn't seem to have anything 'strange' in it and it is low calorie, I think it's got some herbs in it which must taste nice, and it's cheap too. I wanted to avoid molasses too but he wouldn't eat top spec or any of the dengie stuff. It's only lightly molassed and we haven't had any adverse effects.
