Futurity 2012 Rules

Apologies if this has been covered, but I thought I read somewhere that the entries this year were going to be anonymous. Is that not true ?

Yes I think that the judges won't know the breeding of what they are judging- sounds good to me!

So I'm confused! Are foals by stallions graded with CHAPS and Wetherbys NTR allowed or not? It's all very unclear what's allowed and what isnt!

I am disappointed that the BEF have decided to take this route of only allowing progeny of certain stallions to enter from this year. Does the BEF have the right to enforce their opinions on which stallions mare owners should or should not use. The interesting bit of the exclusions are that although progeny of young unproven and ungraded stallions are not eligible, when any of there progeny start to prove themselves in competition, it looks like the stallion will then be eligible.

Surely this is the wrong way round. I would have thought it would be more helpful to british breeding for progeny from young ungraded stallions to come foreward as soon as possible to be assessed so that the ability of a young stallion to improve stock, or not
as the case may be, can count towards any future grading.

Having had two young stallions stand alongside my graded stallion, it has been interesting to see the results achieved by them. Kreighoff himself was assessed as a youngster and has had 4 progeny forward achieving 2 elites, 1 high first and a first. Sadly we lost Krieghoff following an injury in the field, but not before he qualified for the BE 4yo finals and by May of his 5th year he won over £750 and qualified 2nd round Newcomers. Now his progeny are not allowed to come forward! The 2nd stallion Parkmore Master has had two presented, both late foals achieving a high first and a first. He has also recently sired the winning sports horse 2yo at Devon County and Bath and West. This stallion was sold last year as a 4yo with the potential to be a top event horse. Again his progeny can no longer come forward.

Should the BEF in future, then exclude graded stallions, if they dont produce majority of progeny to gain at least first premiums?

Are the BEF actually infringing our rights as private horse owners/breeders by excluding our british bred progeny?

He who pays the piper ...

When someone else comes up with the funding for the Futurity thing, then I'm sure the BEF will change it's mind.

Until then ... their money, their rules!!

Not quite, Eothain...

The BEF is non-profit and their costs in running the series is probably more than covered by the entries - just paid mine, £66, gulp , cost about twice as much as the Norfolk show...

Also, their mission statement is to improve British sports horse breeding, not dictate who is worthy of contributing to the genepool and who isn't! ;)
