As promised on http://www.bef.co.uk/downloads/Venues%20&%20Dates%20prov%202008.pdf or just www.bef.co.uk then go to British Breeding and click on Futurities link if that is too complex an address.

There are now 9 qualifying venues (the Grange has 2 days) including Scotland and the South East as requested on this forum :-), plus a final at Addington. The final will be completely different from the qualifiers and will not affect any premiums awarded at the qualifiers.

Full rules will be up on the web site by 1 March

What are the criteria for you to take a horse to these shows?

I have a yearling colt, SHB(GB) registered who has been bred for high level dressage.

Thanks for that Ciss. Have my fingers crossed for the Scottish one, have had quite a good lot of feedback......just hope that it all comes good for August.

He is certainly eligible as he has papers from a DEFRA listed UK studbook PIO and he is within the age group range (British-bred animals with papers from a foreign studbook that have been overstamped by a UK studbook PIO are also eligible of course :-)). There is a group especially for yearling colts and geldings bred for dressage.

Please PM me with your e-mail contact details and I will make sure that the rules, entry forms etc are forwarded to you as soon as they are ready.

BTW, to be pedantic they are not 'shows' in the normal sense -- more like inspections / gradings (they are after all called evaluations) so each animal is assessed as an individual rather than how it ranks in relation to the other animals forward in its group on the day.

becki2003 - we had a foal last year by the same stallion as your boy and we won top dressage foal at our venue and was 2nd national so your boy def has the breeding to do well in the futurity classes

Can you take a youngster (2 year old colt) bred in germany or not (I've been a little confused) or is it just bred in the UK

its got to be british bred, i think there are exceptions on this though regarding where it was concieved etc (could be way off here) your best off asking ciss shes the bef guru

Thank you everyone... I will PM you my email address etc. and would love to have some more information as it is definitely something I would be interested in as I visit Myerscough a lot with my other horses.

Sorry, I call everything a 'show' as I have never really had anything to do with this side of equestrianism so am trying to learn fast. It sounds perfect getting feed back on each individual. What a great way of finding out what your foal is capable of in the future.

I have a filly who will be 2yo in 2008, but is it true I'll have to pay £50 for the previous 2 yrs that she wasn't presented?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, not any more :-), You only need to pay the £50 for each of the years that you want to be assessed as they happen. However, it is possible that if there is an additional prize fund allocated for animals that have been enrolled every year if you miss out on a year the horse will not be eligible fot that. OTOH, buy back is available though :- but I'm not quite sure what the status of this final fund is ATM.

I'd like to take my yearling too - but she's bred for SJ? And is AES. But I am not a member of SHB (GB) - does anyone know if that matters?

There is definitely a group for yearling fillies bred for SJ and AES papers are also very OK as well. Its NOT an a SHBGB event (or affilaited to it in any way) so not being a member of that organisation is certainly not an issue :-)

Sorry no, animals have to be British-bred, so unless he was foaled in Germany whilst his UK based dam was visiting a stallion in Germany then he is not eligible. OTOH, some horses registered with the BHHS, TBF or German studbooks are decribed as being bred by a German breeder even if foaled in the UK as these studbooks describe the owner of the mare at the time of covering as being the breeder but becuase they are foaled here they are eligible. IOW, it is animals imported in their own right that are not eligible.

Ciss - i want to take my colt he is Irish sports horse im sure that is fine but what about my filly - yearling next year ?? she is oldenburg but obviously bred over here and foaled here to ?? x

Ooh how exciting, I ordered my new in hand bridle a few days back in preparation for this and some other things

Note to self - must start work with my chap soon!

i may take her then. The info is long and confusing and one of the reasons I wasn't going to take her was I thought it would cost £150. Do people tend to take them for assessment every year?

Hi, I'd like to enter my yearling filly but wondered about vaccinations. She'll only have had her first two jobs by July 2008, and not yet the third one which provides 'full' cover. Is that okay?

Becuase we use so many different venues many of whom have differing rules on this, we do not have a vaccinations policyof our own. We therefore ask people to check with the venue that they wish to present at and abide by the regulations at that venue.

How annoying, our two closest venues clash with Ponies Uk summer Championships, which I cant get out of (running a showing yard and all that!). Bugger bugger. might risk sending OH on his own with Cleio to the Arena UK one if I dare, but probably means we wont get to take any foals this year

Have you thought about the one at the Sports Horse Centre the following week? Jan says that Coventry probably isn't that much further for you than HofE so that may solve your problem -- it would be really good to see you again this year.
