Beans has to be on box rest for the next 5 weeks, including 3 trips back to the vet hospital.

Place your bets now for how long we last before either or both of us end up back in hospital!

Nothing new really. We learned last week that the steroid injections we gave her fetlocks had done no good at all :( So, we are now trying some new treatment; taking blood from her, fancy stuff done to it, and then having three lots of it injected back into the joints. However, for it to be as effective as possible we have to make her rest, so box rest it is. *wibble*

Ohh no :( are you still planning on putting her in foal??

Yup :) She is certainly not going to be rideable, not even a light hack (Lots of tears last week over that :() but the vet assures me there's absolutely no reason not to put her in foal, so hopefully this time next year we'll have a baby Beans :)

The few times I had to sedate Daisy I found ACP much more effective than Sedalin. Given the circumstances I'd be very surprised if you couldn't persuade the vet to give you some.

eeek. ACP is your friend maybe? or, maybe turn out in concrete yard when she's allowed out?

Well, I've got some sedalin, but sometimes it works with her, sometimes it doesn't...

Last time she was on boxrest, followed by small paddock turnout, then I kept her at a friends yard. She was good for the first couple of weeks, and then she started pacing... non-stop! Even in a dirt paddock with the other horses right in front of her, she wouldn't settle and for that then I decided to dope up and turn out... Shall have to see how we get on with this. She's actually been stabled at night for the last 4 weeks and stayed v calm :)

Can you use ACP long term for some weeks? I've not really any experience of it. Didn't know that it was that different to sedalin tbh.

The active substance is the same, but one sometimes works better than the other strangely.
Just a thought, I had a livery on box rest after surgery and the vets gave the horse an injection that supposedly takes the edge off them for up to 4 weeks, maybe worth investigating? Unfortunately, I don't remember what was the name of the stuff:o

Thank you! I think someone else on here mentioned something similar recently. I think they called it 'pony prozac' :D I'd certainly like to know what it is... Gah, I really hate keeping her stabled. It's so boring for her :(
