Our liveries are STILL leaving their horses poo in the arena after they have ridden, despite hints from B that they should pick it up.

I told him i'd make a sign to stick on the gate last time they left loads in there but never got round to it.

So have said i will speak to them when i see them (probably Fri) if not i shall be very tempted to pick it up and deposit it back in their horses stables (yes they have allocated stables now so i can dump it in there!) !!

Makes me so cross its so rude! !

Hinting is useless. You need to be clear in what you want people to do and what the consequences are if they dont.

My old YO would lock the school if poo was not picked up. And it remained locked until the poo was removed, and the culprit apologised.

Is that your YO used to lock the offending peeps in there!!

Sounds like a great idea!!!

The yard that i used to work at had a horse walker, and if any one used it and didn't pick up poo in the horse walker, we used to shut them in there with the horse walker going until they had swept the whole thing!

I will admit they have improved slightly and now sweep their part of the yard after i said something to them about tidying up before they go home.

Obviously i am going to have to say to them about the poo in the arena now!

Like the idea of padlocking the gate thats a good one.

Our school has a big sign on the fence (it's about two foot high) which does the trick. At my old yard it was the YOs that left it in there - everyone else cleaned it up!!

I used to let a "friend" use my arena free of charge and she always left poo behind. I asked politely, put a big sign up and in the end stopped her coming as I got so fed up of it. Why do people do it? It isnt like it was a one off or the horse had pooed and she hadnt noticed, it was trudged in after she had ridden over it.
Lock the gate and only give the people a key who treat it with respect.

See this is it! It is always trudged into tiny pieces like if they do that we won't notice it!

It will wreck the drainage of a beautiful arena which has never flooded and that is the last thing we want.

Invest in a padlock! Subtle hints are a waste of time. I know a few yards who lock the school for a week if the liveries haven't cleared up after themselves. Harsh on those who aren't guilty, but it gets the point across.

Also have you got a poo picker right by the arena. I agree that hinting is no good, you have to tell them directly. I can't believe the lack of respect, there are 4 people at our yard (including YO) and we wouldn't dream of leaving poo in the school.

Yep the is a poo scoop thing right next to the gate, and a tub to put it in (though the tub is currently full so its either chuck poo in the fields over the arena fence or into the muck trailer).

There are only me, B and E and our two liveries that ride in there and us 3 are careful to pick up any poo its the two liveries that leave it in a state.

Again we're back to the they seem to think its 'my job' to clear up any poo in the arena just like they seemed to think it was 'my job' to clear up any mess on the yard they made, until i said they better clear up their mess.

I am the only one at our yard who clears up the poo in the arena and no one seems to realise the damage it does to the drainage, even the YO - sometimes I wonder why I bother! Have to say I would be absolutley furious if the school was looked to everyone, even those not quilty. At my old yard we got a telling off on the 'white board' if we forgot! It worked.

Ah see it would only be locked to the two liveries if we were to lock it at all!

I can see that causing major arguments between everyone well all of a few people on a small yard so that is perhaps not the best option for us.
