My dog is in the office with me today as we are having new carpets at home. I took him for a walk at lunchtime in a local park and got so IRRITATED! I usually walk my dog in the middle of nowhere, so rarely meet anyone etc.
I have three things to complain about today though and still 2 hours before I can go home, so I'm afraid you lot are going to bear the brunt of my fury

1. People who don't pick up dog poo! How can they let their dog sh*t in the middle of a narrow path and just walk away!
2. People who put the poo in a bag....and then leave it on the floor by the path - Why

3. This one needs explaining. My dog can be a bit funny about other dogs if they run towards him when he is on the lead. He doesn't really do anything, just grumbles a bit and his hackles go up. The path I was on is narrow, but you can see a long way in front of you... So I see a woman in the distance with two dogs. I call my dog to me, put him on a short lead. Get closer, still one of her dogs loose, the other on an extending lead. As the first one runs towards me I put Kaiber's halti on and keep myself between him and the other dog. He's a good boy and ignores this dog that runs up to within a few feet of us and is curling his lip and showing his teeth. Bl**dy woman says 'oh, don't worry, he's fine' (doesn't look it to me!). Anyway, manage to fend it off and it goes a bit beyond us. I'm level with her now, and she only says oh, that one's fine, its this one (on the huge long extending lead) that is difficult, I've just had him castrated to stop him fighting! At which point, we have just got past it, and it turns round and lunges at us, almost dragging her with it. Luckily I've got kaib on a really short lead, and he doesn't actually do anything to defend himself. Problem is, if he had, you can bet it would have been my dog that got the blame....cos he's a rottie

Is it only me that thinks it is common courtesy to put your dog on a lead if you are walking towads someone who has their dog on a lead? I put Kaib ona lead whenever anyone with a dog/horse/child comes towards me! He is totally used to and friendly with horses/children, but I do it anyway out of politeness, unless we are in a situation where I know he won't go near - eg passing a walker on a wide berth in a field etc, and even then I would call him close and keep him with me.
GAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
Right, thank you for reading this far, not expecting any replies, just good to get my frustration off my chest!!

It REALLY annoys me when people don't control their dogs. Don't get me wrong I love dogs but I took my daughter who was 3 at the time for a walk along the river and this Newfoundland came tearing towards us off the lead and nearly bowled her over. I was fuming. And then the stupid woman came over in her stilettos (we were in a field with cows in) saying come on sweetie and the dog just ran riot RAAAAAAA

You're completely in the right!

I got chased by 2 labs once when I riding, they were completely out of control and their owner was miles off. Luckily they didn't actually do anything and April was quite calm and just ignored them but I gave the woman a right earful when I caught up with her!

I would be mortified if I couldn't keep my dog under control.
My OH parents dogs run wild and I hate it, I want to buy them a 'Its me or the dog' book as a xmas joke but think it might be a bit too cheeky LOL

OK where's that wine

_April_, had that recently too. Sharer and I were out on the common outside our old yard with the two horses, and my dog. In the far far distance I see two labs, well known in our area as their owner is a very unpleasant man. One is totally out of control, easily 500m from owner and running at us full pelt! I put kaiber in a down/stay between the horses who are luckily very dog-proof. This lab runs up, under my mare's feet (if it had been the arab he would have kicked it!) bounds at kaib who understandably jumps up growling and barks at it, it then (luckily) ran off. Because he is a good boy (and I had treats in my pocket

) my dog didn't follow. Now if that had been my stepsister for example she would have been absolutely terrified - she is actually a dog-phobic, won't come in the house if my dog is there. I have to shut him in the garden and lock the door. She doesn't want to be so scared, she can't help it. She would absolutle have passed out in terror with a large lab hurtling at her at top speed!

I totally agree with you about points 1 and 2 but I wouldn't ordinarily put my dog on a lead if we were going past another dog who was on a lead unless the owner wanted me to as their dog was a bit funny and then I'd be more than happy to. I think it's because I see so many dogs that are always on a lead and a lot of the time it's because they might run off or something and not for any potential aggression problems.

I can control my dog and again I would be more than happy to put him on a lead to prevent any problems occuring but I wouldn't honestly think to unless I was told!

p.s only exception is around horses/farm animals etc then I always do.

Agree - we have a Doberman who is usually on a lead as he likes to join in the ride with horses and to explore the fields far away:-O On the lead he can be a bit protective v other dogs (tho he's fine off lead ironically)

Yet whenever we walk along with him on the lead and another dog runs up and starts picking a fight and owner has no control or no willingness to put their dog on a lead like we have, they are always the stroppy ones if our Dobe starts to growl or bark even tho their dog is attacking

Mind you, you're doomed anyway, when I took him to dog training I walked in the room, another dog barked and growled at him, he barked once and the instructor asked ME 'Is he always that vicious?'!!!!! I walked straight out......

He's actually far less likely to bite anyone than my terrier - if he catches you by mistake in a game he's horrified, as soon as he feels flesh contact he drops instantly. The terrier, if you had a sausage roll. well......

And I too get MAD about CRAP people who put dog poo in bags and then leave it - in our area there is someone with peach bags who HANGS THEM ON TREES AT FACE LEVEL. WHY??? it would be better not to pick it up - its never going to rot like that. If I catch Peach Bag Man or Woman...........

I don't mind dogs being off the lead - my sister's are most of the time and I'd be lying if I said the collie had never been a pain in the backside! It's just annoying when owners don't even try to control them!

I was out on a hack with a friend and this lab burst out of the bushes barking its head off. Both horses leap a mile forwards and I only just managed to contain C.

I turned C around and in my best Victoria Stilwell voice boomed 'SIT' and then 'STAY'!

And it did! I am sure that with most dogs if you tell them to sit in an authoritative voice they will... I hope!

With you. I work on the rule if their dog is off the lead I leave mine be, if its on the lead I will call all four of ours back and have them sit quietly. Occasionally the little terrier can be a bit awkward so I go for her first!
IT does annoy me if mine are on leads and someones appears in the middle of them.

Alfiesmum/TripleSandH - totally with you, not sure I was clear. I have absolutely no problem with people's dogs being off the lead - 10 mins after this incident we passed a very pleasant man and his spaniel, who walked to heel past us, then bounded off once past. I put Kaib on a lead to pass him, then let him off again. Its when people are in denial that they have no control over their dogs that gets me!!

Thanks - was really worried that I'd broken some sort of unwritten rule and everyone in my local park was muttering about me!!!

Must be nearly time for you to go home now? Hope you have a lovely weekend x

Point2 - I agree with but I was out with someone who did just that with their dog poo bag. I was rather horrified as she is a friend and I asked her what she was doing.

Well as she does a circular walk she leaves the poo at a point where she can pick it up on the way back to save carrying it around. When she walks back down tha lane she collects her bag of poo and takes it home. Not too heinous a crime I didn't think. She puts in up in a hedge so that little children can't pick it up and muck about with the bag. There is some sense in that I thought.

I was out riding the other week, and my friend rode my other horse, a dog charged out from a house and lunged at my other horses heels, he just picked up a leg and clonked him on the side of the head, knocked him straight out, i actually felt awfull and the owner was very good and admitted it was her fault, i hope he is ok as havent been brave enough to enquire.

I have 2 dogs who are good off the lead, but if I see someone with a dog the lead I always put mine on a lead.

I agree with the poo bags one too soo anoying. There was a faze a couple of year ago where some one was walking their dogs past my horses field every day. Every day I would find a new filled poo bag stuffed in my drystone wall!! It got absolutely rediculous the number of bags there were. So I got a stick and pulled them all out and ponked them right in the middle of the road. No more poo bags appeared after that!!

Totally agree with you.
My old GSD would sometimes grumble if other dogs came too close to me. If we were out walking and other dogs were about I always kept her on lead, but invariably some dog would come running up to have a sniff at her and the idiot owner would shout (cos they were usually nowhere near their dog) "Its okay he's friendly". Yes, but mine might not be! And like the op if there was any grief my dog would get the blame cos she was a Shepherd.

We were out on an endurance ride recently (me on spooky and my friend on her stallion) and a lady was walking towards us with two large German sheps - the dogs saw us from a while away and came rushing towards us - they were both circling around the horses legs and walking within about 6 inches of the horses back legs etc - It was a bit off putting to say the least as spooks isn't a huge fan of dogs, and tends to try and squash them! I said to her that she needs to control them as they may get kicked and we aren't going to be responsible if they were, and she said 'Oh it's ok - they dont mind horses!!'

So I had to remind her that that is all very well, but has she ever considered that the horses may not want to be mobbed by two 'wolves' that they have never met before, when they are all excited and het up - she looked at me as if i had just smacked her across the face!! Unbelievable!!

When my old collie Ben was younger a staffy used to run at him and about bowl him over, one day this staffy ran across two fields into ben who was off the lead but at my side under control, Ben practically ate it alive, the woman came running over and blamed me and Ben, duh, plus because I had Bessy my other Collie with me they were reffered to when she talked about us as "those bloody collies", we did eventually get on ok as she eventually realised it was her dog who was the pain as she did say later on, "I think Rocky (yes rocky) has learnt his lesson with your dog".

I agree with you that you should always put your dog on a lead when you see another dog. My dog was a rescue dog and was never socialised. Therefore we never know how he is going to react and keep him away from other dogs, wherever possible. Unfortunatly some people do not have the consideration todo the same.

On several occasions owners have not controlled their dogs and have come up to our dog and started sniffing his rear end and he growls at them and they attack him. The owner is then screaming at us to get our dog off theirs when they can not control their own. We then have to try and pull our dog off but the other dogs keep attacking and he cant defend himself.

This could all be avoided if people would simply put their dogs on leads. We do always ask people to put their dogs on a lead and explain our dogs unsociability to which they reply 'oh dont worry he wont hurt him'. We reply 'Its not your dog im worried about!'

If somebodys dog attacks mine and mine is on the lead the other dog gets a bloody good kicking, people round here leave dog shite in bags and leave them hanging "permanently", must be something to do with inbreeding where we live.
