I bought tredstep gaiters from ebay at a bargain price 👍 I think the person cleaned them with a strong polish or something as they are very shiny, but they also squeak so badly on my saddle. This is a good thing because it's alerting me to my wobbly lower leg, lol but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to reduce the squeaking? I have used my leather conditioner on them once just while I was cleaning tack but it didn't cure the issue :(

Sounds like something shellac based has been used - great for shine, not so great for leather! Do you have a beeswax rather than lanolin based leather conditioner? That might work. Basically you have to soften the shellac coat enough to get the conditioner through it so it could take a while. All lanolin will do is sit on the top. Depending on how much you like them you could try a patch test with spirit vinegar to remove the coating - but you will need to really deep condition the leather afterward and it might take the dye out.

I like them loads and I couldn't afford to replace them! Il clean and condition them thoroughly a few times a week over the next few weeks. Will Bear in mind never to use those products on any of my tack, so thank you!
