Anyone have experience of changable gullet Gallop saddles? Are they comfortable, well made, wear reasonably well? Thinking of buying barely used for £80 (17.5")

Thoughts?

I'm sorry but i personally think the are rubbish.A friend had one to break her youngster in as they were cheap and it fell to bits, the stitching rotted within 3 weeks (it was looked after, oiled, cleaned after use).I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Right, thanks a lot both! Any ideas where I could get a used changable gullet saddle for a decent price? Still on ebay looking too :)

You can get second hand wintecs on ebay for a good price and they really last. However, avoid them if you have a flat backed wide horse.

Try a saddle company one, that can be adjusted loads without the faf of a changeable gullet and easy to buy second hand off ebay, they cna then be adjusted by a Saddle Company fitter as your horse changes shape

Don't touch, keep away.

I would go for a wintec, or a Thorogood

Gfs do a good one too but would be more money and also Kent and masters which IMO is the best one to get

The price is £80!!!! Doesn't that tell you something? To be honest, if you bought one, I think it a bit sad that you expected it to do more than it does or did. Don't blame the saddle, its price tells it all and is being honest.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

Mo's mum, shires do a sprung gullet one, that self adjusts, from medium to wide, and wide to xxw, i have had them for last year or so.

Good quality, lovely fit, nice looking. and about £150

Second hand leather Bates (makers of Wintec, same gullet plates) sell for less than £400 on eBay and are lovely leather, though the Cair filling can be hard.
