Does anyone know of some surfaced gallops within 45mins/1hr from Rickmansworth area - i would preferably like something with an incline but suggestions for flat gallops also appreciated.

Also, does anyone know of a good xc - novice/intermediate height - that is open in this weather. i am willing to travel much further for this and am tempted to head up to ALW to use their new surface xc so any experiences of this would be appreciated to!!

Thanks in advance - J:)

There are gallops at Tring which is not too far from you, Wareseley is probably well over the hour. I don't imagine there is anywhere to school at the moment, its so wet everywhere. We are heading to ALW this weekend as I can't see anywhere opening soon either!

There's also Marsworth gallops who I spotted on Facebook yesterday. Very close to Tring gallops but not the same. Marsworth postcode is HP23 4NA.

Both have Facebook pages

Hi there,
I run Tring Gallops. If you want to come and try us out send me a message with your email and I can forward you the details. We are 5 Mins off the A41 bypass so it is very convenient. People come from miles to use them as they were laid when it was a race yard, so there has been no expense spared on the 1500m part waxed all weather surface. It is workable both ways other than the small stretch of hill at the end so you get the best of both worlds. You do not spend lots of time lowering your horses heart rate going back down a hill!
I have been up to Aston schooling as soon as it opened this year. Its fantastic for its purpose and I would say it is most suited to Novice/intermediate horses (probably more for the latter) so it really sounds like it is worth a trip for you. I went with a PN horse and we just about had enough to do, if she had a little more experience it would have been amazing for us.
Hope this helps
Many thanks
Sam
