Has anyone any recommendations of where to buy a feed bin, preferably 2 sections, dont care if its 2nd hand and not too expensive.
Ive seen some but they come flat packed, is this a major problem?
Thanks

These people do them but they are flat pack too http://ascott-dairy.co.uk/acatalog/Feed_Bins_and_Scoops.html

I know its not as asthetically pleasing but an old chest freezer makes an ace feed bin, you can usually get them cheap from the larger 'furniture' charity shops or on ebay or even Freecycle. you can leave feed in sacks in them, put open top plastic boxes or bins in them or sometimes the insides are grooved and you can put in dividers

Thanks for the link, will have a look now.

I forgot all about chest freezers :) Will have a look at them too.

Thank you :D:D

I've use metal coal ones from eBay. But to be honest, I've returned to dustbins.

I found mice can squeeze through the seams of the metal ones if you don't have them sealed tight. They are a pain to move and clean. And the lid hits you on the head EVERY day:(

I've just taken the biggest one apart and have much more room in my tackroom now.

I've gone back to dustbins and I'm much happier:)

Thanks for that. Maybe this is the problem with the flat pack ones. My friend has a big old one that shes had years and shes never had a problem with mice. I agree though hers has hit me on the head a few times! :D

I got mine from Mole Valley - it was delivered ready made (I think we had to put the divider in if I remember rightly). Don't know how much it was as it was a birthday present (sad eh?) but its been great. There is no way for mice to get in and so long as you push the lid right back there's no danger - watch me go and bash myself on the head tonight having said that ;)

To be fair to the bins, the smaller one I got (3cwt) I assembled properly and it's always been fine. The bigger one, I was sloppy with the assembly and mice could get in. I took it apart last week with the intention of doing it properly, but have just stored it instead:p

If I could justify the money, the more expensive ones would be fine.

With the lids, I lean them back against the wall, bend in to get feed out and jostle the bin, then the lid flies down and hits me:(

It's happened so many times now I've become quite headshy around them now. :(

Next door have an old chest freezer going spare outside their front door. I know it could be sooo useful but at the moment I have no use for it and no space for it - gah!

my huge one has had door sealer stuck around the lid to make a tighter fit & garentee the squeekies keeping out & to combat the lid/head interface moments i have an old leadrope that got chewed off nailed to the wall & clip the padlock loop to the snaphook when i open it.

do have a chest freezer for my rug though & untill i moved to the new yard it sat outside in the elements by the gate & stayed dry through all the rain & snow for the lat 3 years.

Ouch. I've got mine pulled out from the wall a few inches, then when you lean the lid against the wall the weight is going backwards not forwards. Also it does have safety thingies on both sides which lock it back but to be honest I'm too idle to use them. They do sometimes lock automatically and then I have to fiddle one handed to unlock them :D
