My mare has been in horspital for 4 days now, call this morning confirmed the worst. She has minor injuries to the inferior check ligament, the superior check ligament, the superficial flexor tendon and the suspensory

In his words 'god knows how she did it'. She has already been rested for 8 months, still 1/2 10th lame. Surgery no longer an option. He thinks in 2 years she will be able to hack out and perhaps some low level dressage (no chance!).

So she is off to have babies instead but I am absolutely gutted, for both of us

So hunt begins, if anyone knows of any show jumpers for sale please let me know, I have a limited budget but nutters are welcomed !

I am so sorry to hear this and it is so devastating to hear as an owner, although it does re-inforce my orignal thinking tha'ts mares are better as at least she can continue to have a "useful" life.
Hope the hunt for a replacement goes well and that you current girl has fun with her future babies to.

Sorry to hear that , at least she can be bred from. Good luck in the search for a new one!
Im sure you'll be inundated with pm's from people tryin to sell you their nutters!!

I know how you feel as I went through a similar thing with Amy.

However, think of the positives. You are not looking at putting her down. And she will be able to have beautiful babies for you. How lovely - and how lucky. Not all of us get that opportunity.

Chin up.

Hi Ali, I know that you can relate to how I feel! Yes she has already bred two beautiful foals and is well bred and proven herself so fingers crossed she can start a new career now.

Typical, of all my horses she is so special to me and the one that I love the most. I doubt I can replace her, but I will try!

Thanks for everyones replies

Thanks A-M, yes every cloud and all that. She breds beautiful big foals, so I can look forward to that now, no doubt more sleepless nights ahead !

Hopefully she can enjoy a new and slower pace of life now.

Sorry to hear that. I know of 2 young horses that are bred to sj for sale for a very reasonable amount. PM me if you would like more info.

Oh no how awful

I'm gutted for you too!!

I agree with Amymay though, at least you are not having to make the decision to have her PTS and she can still go on to breed you a beautiful foal. PLUS you may still be able to ride her in a few years time so will be nice to get on her every now and then for a plod round the roads to keep her ticking over.

I know its not the same but at least your not having to say good bye to her.

Good luck in your search for a new horsey
