A resident in Gamlingay, has reported a suspicious incident at a farm in
Heath Road.

The lady visited a pony at the location on the morning of the 18th of

Although the knot may have occured naturally in the wind, the owner was
concerned enough to report it to the Police.

If you discover a suspcious knot or tangle in the mane of a pony or
horse, please taken a picture of it, and then remove it from the mane,
keeping it for reference.

Bedfordshire Police are asking for owners to be extra vigilant, and to

For God's sake. This is complete hysteria now - read the description - a knot or tangle that may have occurred naturally in the wind. Of course it bloody did it's been flaming windy here. Most horses with anything but a short mane will be full of knots. I know mine are, despite copious use of mane & tail conditioner.
If we keep bothering the police with stupid panics they will start to ignore us - has nobody else haerd the story of the boy who cried wolf?

There's alot going in this area now, so i dont think its hysteria, more the police starting to take an interest, hence the request for info about the plait (or knot). may be something or nothing but best to be informed and alert, i think.

The police are automatically passing any report through the ringmaster service. It was probably dealt with by a person who knows nothing about horses. If you are worried freezemark your horse. Scrub that, don't wait till you are worried - just get it freezemarked, you know it makes sense. Mark all you tack & equipment & get on with life. The police have enough real crimes to investigate - or do you think they should permanently assign a constable to my 2 cobs who have tangles & knots virtually every day?
As I've said before my mare often has tangles that can resemble plaits but, much as I treasure her, I don't really think a 20yo, covered in sarcoids bay is top of any thieves nick list. (& yes she was freezemarked as soon as I got her)

Excellent post Hairy Cob!
