My TB mare has recently developed some small bald patches and one raised warty patch on her face. I think they may be the start of sarcoids and would like to try some natural remedies to try and get rid of them before they get any bigger. I have heard about feeding garlic cloves? Also there seems to be alot of success with Thuja? My smaller pony got sarcoids two years ago and the vet told me to leave them alone to see what happened, they got alot bigger and had to be treated with the liverpool cream which was very painful for him. I would not like to go down this route again if I can help it. Thanks in advance for any info!

my tb/wb had sarcoids, we decided to see how they developed and in the end the one on his chest had to be cut out. This came back the next year and we had to use blood root cream which burns into it and it was painful and messy and never went. We then decided to leave it and then a year later he developed one on his girth and one near his sheath, as I couldn't ride with the one on the girth we went to Rossdales and had them lazered off. This was successful and he hasn't touch wood had any back. However I don't know if they can do this on the face. All of my horses have tonnes of garlic in their feeds, fresh or dried and it never helped - sorry. I think others have used natural creams and it has helped but it might be worth waiting - I was told that if I hadn't had the first one cut out he probably wouldn't have got the others, but he did have a couple on his face that dropped off. good luck as they are a pain in the butt!

Thuja works well and would certainly be worth trying at this early stage. As I posted before I have used this in the past with success (I used both the ointment and pills together)

Be extremely careful! The bald patches you are describing are occult type sarcoids same thing but just developing differently. The problem is that the 'virus' (for lack of a better word) causing sarcoids is within the horses own cells so unless you remove every single cell that is affected you cannot get rid of the sarcoid. If you mess with it and cause those cells to be transfered or stimulate cell division and growth you can end up in a right mess.
