Garrrrghhhhhhh, buyers...

Just advertised a horse who it says in the advert can be buzzy if ridden behind in company. Also says not a beginner's ride and states it's competition wins.
Now to me that would mean an experienced rider would be interested who wanted it for more than hacking..
Two calls within an hour of the ad, one from a person who wanted it to hack with her kids.. errrr no..The other from someone who wanted to keep it alone in her field for hacking.
I explained to both it wouldn't suit, and to be honest a horse who has lived amongst or within touching distance of a lot of others all it's life (12 years) would find it very difficult to be happy on it's own, and to expect a buzzy horse to settle hacking when I have specifically said it isn't quiet hacking means what it says.
We hear loads about sellers being fibbers etc but what about buyers who plainly don't read the advert or think I am stating the truth?
Oh Lord, I've probably got days of calls like these..I was hoping someone would buy it purely to have fun on at competitions which it excells at..

Well HH, at least you were honest, you could have just said, yep, come on over and try it!!!

One of my girls that are looking for a horse found a really nice one, they went to see it 3 times!! They very nearly bought it but on the last trial it pi55ed off with her and she ended up falling off because she just couldn't stop it, she said she wasn't bothered about the falling off bit, just the fact that there was no way of stopping

I hope people DO start to take notice of what's written in the ad, otherwise, why do we bother?

I know what you mean.
I was selling a Belgium bred 17hh 6 year old mare. And she was a bit of a .......(well you know).
I put in the ad, Not a novice ride, would suit a man's hunter etc. I had a mum on the phone insisting her young teenage daughter wanted to come and try her. So i let her (she was fine in the school), she was average height but very light. And they said that ''she is too strong'' I did try and tell them.

I know what you mean.....I recently had to be honest and say our mare advertised as a sj/ allrounder competition horse who is actually fine to hack out, but not bombproof, would not be suitable for hacking out with a show pony on a lead rein!

That said I am actually quite envious that you are getting phone calls...I want a good home for our beautiful mare and there's very little interest from the web ads or H&H..

i have a 16.1hh 4yr old ramiro z lines,she would suit a competition home but i haven't even had a call ???

Yup i can sympathize with you, advertised my shetlands for loan, got a call about my 3year old coloured, i'd said in the ad that she needed regualr handling, experianced parents, and not for small children (she was lovely, butonly 3 and a bit full of herself), got calls from epople with 2 year olds they wanted to teach to ride on it( she'd been 'sat on' a cople times, not broken to ride), a lovely little girl who was about 12 i tihnk, who insisted she wanted to break in herself and teach her little sister to ride on her, who was apparently really good and had jumped 5 foot(the sister was 6 i think...) and that they would look after it all themself....we said we had people coming to see her and we'd call back after ^_^

My friend is selling a 17 hh horse and laid it on how big he was. The 'buyer' came yesterday and the first thing she said is - oh, he's very big. On the hack she said she wasn't too sure is she had room for him at home (!!??why have you come to see him??). She finally asked 'was he open to offers? My friend had never mentioned a price as she explained it depended on the home (i.e. if she likes you and its a good home she doesn't care)! Classic.

I'm afraid you have to accept the old phrase 'the more I have to do with people...the more I like animals'.

I really am staggered at the sheer stupidity of some people. Well done to you all for keeping your cool and also keeping your horses safe from these idiots.

Just cleaned my waggon for viewing tomorrow got an email this morning oh we're not coming its too far. the location was in the ad!!

Oh no, what a nightmare. Sorry to hear that henry. The few times I've bought I've read the adverts over and over, done research (to check competition records etc) and made a list of questions to ask. I can't believe some people just seem to call up on a whim without clearly not having done the basics, i.e. reading the bloody advert! How frustrating. Still, I guess you will have to sieve through a lot of cr*p before you find the right buyer. Good luck!
