Hi, I recently purchased a Foxy horseboxes Horsebox and I am looking to purchase a gas bottle as I am going to a camp soon and this week be the first time I have stayed away overnight in it. I do not see any pipe or regulator in the compartment. So I assume I need to purchase the pipe and regulator as well as the bottle? Would I be correct in saying I need a 7.5kg butane bottle?

Caravans use 6kg propane bottles, the red ones. Go to a good caravan dealer and they will sort you out with the correct fittings and bottle. you need propane as butane (blue bottles) doesn't work if it is close to freezing point.

As Fizz4 has said go to a caravan dealership & quiz them as to what you need. It will be expensive to start with as the actual gas cylinder in expensive however when you need to eplace gas it ill be much cheaper as you always will have a gas cylinder to tradwe in. Before you go to buy measure how long a tube you need. The tube & gas regulator are quire cheap, Regulator is around £8. Be careful using propane instead of butane. I put my burner up to full & it mlted the support bars on the stove. I've always used butane.

I’d get advice on size and type. I needed a 3.9kg red bottle - it really depends on how much space you have in your locker. I didn't have an empty to trade in so I struggled a bit. Calor are not supplying new. Flo gas do still supply bottles.

I used to have 2 small bottles as opposed to one larger one. That way, when one ran out, I could simply swap to the other and get the empty one filled.

I am amazed they sold you a lorry without the fittings in.
It means that the gas appliances have not been tested you need to get that done .

Calor in my area (Devon/Cornwall) are no longer doing the small 3.9kg and 4.5kg bottles but are allowing customers to exchange fr the next size up. They are still not allowing new contracts to be started so only allowed to trade in. You can get refillable gas bottles from a company called safe fill. The initial outlay for the bottle is quite expensive but the bottles can be filled up at an LPG pump, unlike calor or flogas. Or ask your farrier Who fitted his gas bottle for his forge. A lot of the farriers (and motor homes/caravans) have a bottle fitted with the correct fixtures externally for filling at the pump too. Hope this helps x
