Hi asking advice, this time of year I struggle with my mare being uncomfortably gassey to the point of nearly colicky. I don’t want supplement suggestions but if anyone knows of anything I’m missing
So horse is 5yr old idx big girl exercised 5-6 times a week.
Fed fast fibre total of two soaked scoops a day, and one scoop of honeychop low sugar and starch. This feed is then split into three feeds morning 20 min before turn out, second seed is when she comes in from field and final feed in the evening. She also has a really good probiotic, vit e supplement and ablib wet hay in small hole haynet so it is trickle fed.
She looks fab, however this is where the problem is. Now the grass is coming through she is turned out from 7am till 12.30 lunchtime. I have restricted her paddock for the last two months so there isn’t much to eat but she does have a small amount of hay in field, I know short grass is sugary but there really isn’t much out there. Today I bring her in at 1230 she has her tiny feed with probiotics and a small haynet and I check her half hr later. Looks very bloated resp rate 26 per min and stays like this for 3 hrs passing dropping but guts sound like a washing machine churning away. I will be speaking to the vet tomorrow but thought you may have some ideas
