Hello! Have been having a few problems with my mare, as she goes through phases of being very gassy/fatty/tail swishing, having kept a diary (sad I know) I can pretty much tie the episodes into when she is in season, I'm a bit worried about ulcers, I'll phone the vet tomorrow - is anyone else's mares like this? Any way of fixing the gassyness?

Kinda similar but not season related. My mare had terrible bloating and gas that got worse over time. Vet immediately recommended codeine Phosphate as her horse had the same issue. Problem solved! It worked within about 2 days! She's on it long term now but very low dose. 1 tablet a day whereas she started on about 8 a day!!
Worth discussing with the vet.

I went through issues with my very gassy gelding getting mild colic daily. It's due to his intestine getting so buoyant due to the gas it was floating up between his spleen and skin and getting stuck. Anyhoo, fennel seeds have revolutionised his life, he hasn't had a single episode since he's been on them even when he gets lots of grass which always used to set him off. I get them from global herbs. It's a cheap fix too so double bonus.
