Has anyone has any behavioural issues that they think were linked to GastriAid?
My gelding was successfully treated for ulcers but I put him on gastriaid to ensure no reoccurrence but he's gone potty! Spooky, nervous, over excited etc.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
It might not even be the supplement as hes had a few other "life" changes recently but worth an ask.
Thank you

It contains alfalfa (lucerne) which sends my horse absolutely potty! Its taken me an awful lot of research to find a tummy supplement without it (it's deemed to be good for ulcers hence its in most supplements)

Thats very interesting. Due to ulcers I've increased his chaff to a pure alfalfa diet with some ready grass and hes just wild at the moment. I wasn't sure if he was just feeling good because of his happier tummy but as the weeks go on hes becoming unmanageable.
Can you share what you feed yours now as i think i need to re-evaluate his feeding plan.
Thank you!

Alfalfa/lucerne sends many horses bonkers. Feedmark do a tummy supplement with no alfalfa.
Mine can't tolerate even the teeniest amount of alfalfa so I have to read ALL feed ingredients very carefully. Vet said it's really not the end of the world if I don't feed her any alfalfa.

It's amazing how many people feed feeds containing alfalfa (the feed companies sneak it into so many feeds), people's horses become difficult, so they pump horse full of 'calmers' ?

I'm going to try Fast Fibre on its own instead - i phoned Allen and Page this morning and the lady was very nice. She recommended calling the vet too about his riggy behaviour (the life changes i mentioned was him going from a solo horse to having 2 mare neighbours and i bought a mare for my kids a couple months ago) so i'm getting a vet call back later - so operation sort the big numpty out is at full steam :)

Try Pure Feeds. There's different mixes for different levels of work and types of horse. All are low cal/sugar and suitable for ulcer-prone horses. They have no alfalfa, no molasses etc, have added pre/probiotics and balanced mins/vits. I feed all of mine (including one ulcer-prone, one cushings/laminitic, one competition pony and one fatty wee welshy) on Fibre Balance and 2 of them get added Pure Linseed, and all are thriving.

Give them a call and they'll tell you which one would be suitable for your horse.

(No, I'm not affiliated with Pure Feeds in any way, I just really like their products and my horses all enjoy them too!)

I am sadly nowhere near a stockist - i live right on the north east of scotland and none of the stockists are practical sadly - they do looks a good no-nonsense brand though

I'm in rural Scotland too! I just order online (free delivery if you buy a certain amount in one go) or buy a car boot full whenever I happen to be passing by a stockist when I'm out and about for work.

ah the online option might work - i'll keep it in mind if the fast fibre doesnt do the trick. Thank you!
