Hi all, i have a ISH with stress induced gastric ulcers, he has had a course of gastrogard and two tubs of Ulser-gard (equine america) To ride he is so much better but he is still really bad to girth up, he looks so worried as soon as i bring the saddle out and will groan and throw himself away as soon as i bend to bring the girth under him. I am extremely gentle and slow when girthing but he still usually leaps forward s with his first movement when girthed..then he is fine! My problem is...what can i do to help him that doesnt cost so much!! I just cant afford much more Ulser-gard!! Am giving him alalfa and oil and NO cereals etc. Please help! Do you think the girthing issue is a memory related issue ? What else can i do to help him? Thanks so much for reading!

have you also had his back/saddle checked?

Theres also management changes you can do with ulcers - mine lives out now 24/7 on calmers/red cell and now a digestive supplement :)

she had really bad ulcers, 4 trips to horsepital and recently we thought that was the end - but theres still fight in us yet - shes 6!!! so not prepared to give up yet :)

Perhaps he needs another course of Gastro Guard. Mine improved dramatically to brush off after a months course but was still girthy to tack up. I gave him two weeks more of Gastro Guard and the girthing up improved afterwards, so I think there was still a niggle, even though he scoped clear.

sam act - ^ i should have said

mine took a few goes of GG to get clear...!

also a course of 7 weeks GG and 7 weeks of rest she was scoped clear

back.saddle check imo and a good 4 weeks off work + GG would be a massive help! :)
