Gastric ulcers, advise please

Its a friends horse actually, shes just had him rescoped and it shows that he still has them but not as bad, shes been given some paste to give him, cant think of the name but its very expensive, i think shes got till October for the insurance cover then she has to pay for it herself and she was just wondering if there was anyhting else she could use to help keep them at bay, shes very good with her feeding routine and has done alot of research on what to give him, just after other peoples experiences really.
thanks

we treat alot of youngstock for ulcers and the gastro guard paste is the very best but very expensive. You could go on to something like cimetidine tablets but they are not as effective. If you pm me I can give you a web site where you can buy a similar product to gastro guard but for a fraction of the price, dont want to put it on here incase its considered advertising.

tell your friend to ask the vet to prescribed a month of DOXYCYCLINE which is an antibiotic which kills the bacteria helicobacter pylori which causes 80% of stomach ulcers in humans.

my mare was on gastroguard for MONTHS showing little improvement - she was typically a horse not to get ulcers (laid back, always access to forage etc) - so the vet said "as a last cause" to try doxycycline.

he scoped before the antibiotics and she still had grade 2 ulcers.

one month after the antis and he scoped - all ulcers completly gone!

i don't think vets really make it clear that gasto only prohibits acid production - it does not actively heal the ulcers.

if only we had had doxy in the beginning the ulcers would have been cleared within a month, rather than nearly 8 months.

it's cheap as well - just over £200 for the months course.
