Gastric Ulcers - Coligone (also in vet)

Hello

I am beginning to think my mare may have gastric ulcers as I have been reading about it recently and it would explain a lot of her behaviour eg spookiness, threatening to bite or grind teeth when having her girth done up, occasional irrational aggression. Her back, saddle and teeth have all been checked recently with no problems.

So I am probably going to have her scoped but have been reading on here and other forums and wondered whether it would be worth trying something like coligone or similar for a while before I go to the expense of the veterinary treatment?

Will these relieve the symptoms or are they just simply a preventative?

If I can use them how long would I need to feed them before you would expect to see an improvement?

This is all new to me so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

not sure how long before it starts to work but I also have a similar problem with my horse and am going to buy some tomorrow

Mine shows all the signs of ulcers - haven't had him scoped but have changed his diet etc to follow the same as a horse with ulcers and he is vastly improved - without the huge price tag of vet intervention - he hardly ever cribs or windsucks now as well.

Try Allen and Page Fast Fibre - worked a treat with my chap. Little and often (at least 4 feeds a day) - and plenty of grass/hay (ad lib)

Thanks turbobert she is intolerant to too much protein so I'll have to have a look and see whether the fast fibre will be OK for her at the moment she is just on grass and hay and when I do feed her has D&H equine sensitive and just grass.

I use Coligone and Captain's windsucking, which was without cribbing, has almost completely gone, except when he gets really excited.
I also looked at his diet and removed as much cereal as possible, so he is on Bailey's Outshine and Low Cal balancer, he is a changed horse, not irritability or mood swings, no more aggressive behaviour, I would not be without Coligone now.
