My mare was diagnosed with gastric ulcers yesterday following an endoscope. Obviously I know feed management is a big part of the management of ulcers. any suggestions of feeds that help?

I used Protexin Acid Ease for my mare, no hard feed (only supplements) and 1 or 2 good flakes of grass hay + on pasture 24/7. It seems to work.

Alfalfa is very good at buffering stomach acid because it's naturally high in calcium. Reducing starchy hard feed will help too.

Your best bet though is to find a source of omeprazole (either ulcer guard or gastro guard) and give her a full course. The omeprazole reduces the amount of acid in the stomach and gives the ulcer chance to heal.

my horse was diagnosed with gastic ulcers couple months ago he is currently on gastro gard i had to cut out all course mix and switch to a high fibre diet , so he has hi fi lite (as no mollases in it) , a mash (with no cereals) and badminton high fibre cubes. I also give him supplements slippery elm, and brewers yeast, seewead and corn oil. He also has a chaff feed 30 mins before exercise, always make sure they have plenty of hay/haylege available. My horse is back to his normal self as he got to point he was very grumpy! so just make sure diet is totally high in fibre.
