My gastro plus arrived today and Im feeling stupidly excited about it ! I have to take her photo before I start the months course and another 10 days in just hope she will eat it and resolves things for her. I have heard good things about it so fingers crossed...

she objected to being brushed on the right hand side by the cecum that was when I rang equine science as things have been ongoing now on and off for 2 years.Started by being girthy ,objecting to rugs then after treatment be ok then diagnosed with insulin resistance and slight lameness which resolved just cant quite get her right and still now girthy again .Had vets numerous times ,bowen, physio, chiro danilon, very careful with diet soaking all hay, supplements vets said shes not the ulcer type she holds her weight and has shiny coat also changed the saddle and tried several girths ,so hoping gastro plus will help .

Just to say my boy was not the "ulcer type"... Good weight, shiny coat, fibre only diet, turned out 12 hours a day winter 24 over summer. He became anxious and tense and eventually unrideable under saddle. We scoped and he has grade 2 and 3 ulcers on his pyloris. Really worth knowing if she might have ulcers as the only thing that will heal them is gastrogard. I only say this to help as I know how expensive some if those gastric supplements can be and they cannot treat ulcers alone. Good luck and leg us know how she goes.

Gastrogard didn't work at all on mine. He was scoped, treated with GG, antib's & the other stuff...anseptin...? and it make no difference. Nor did GP, although the lady at Eq Sc was v helpful. Mine was off games for 18 months, not wanting to work at all, miserable, poor coat etc & in the end it was ranitidine & gaviscon double action that fixed him. But I don't think that any one thing works on all horses, & I know that some people have fab results on either GG or GP. Just me with the awkward one!

Really hope yours comes right.

One if my vets said my horse wasn't the sort to have ulcers his coat was glorious, appetite good etc, and I should take him to the pro I bought him from for lessons!

Following wk when he was on holiday I got another vet to scope him. He had grade 2/3 ulcers

thanks everyone for your replys, Germanyjo I am so glad GP worked for your horse and your vet was also impressed that is very encouraging. I am sorry GG didnt work Catembi must have been very worrying but very interesting about gaviscon working for your horse. I am cautiously optimistic at the moment and have been grooming and rubbing my hand over her RH side and front of her neck and girth so far no reaction and also as GP has natural healing the other effect is absolutely no discernable digital pulse in her right front and no puffiness either the skin feels nice and tight over her fetlock. So for me gp is a double edged sword as it will help with her insulin resistance and have been told she may be able to come off all metformin and they will do a bespoke supplement for her needs. At the end I may have to scope and go down the GG route time will tell. I think she is tracking up better on the right hand side as well so far all positive .

Hi,

Just to add on.

My horse looked great, shiny coat etc. Wasn't too happy rugging or girthing.

He had a lot of grade 1 and 2 ulcers. :(

Gastrogard worked wonders and I have a very happy horse. I have also changed his environment, living out as much as the weather allows and in the stable when its really bad. Heard of 4 and good feed and alfa.

Im very interested in the gaviscon? my vet said i could put him on rantidine in times of stress, not sure where to get it though or do you give human ones?

Mine also cribs although better after the GG, so I was also looking for a supplement to generally sooth the tract if anyone has any ideas?
:)

Wow Manth87 thanks for that it is so encouraging and good to know ,i have also used the calming cookies and they were good too. I am quietly cautiously optimistic at the moment with my mare have been placing the saddle on her and rubbing round her girth area pulling the girth against her ,yesterday ears back when she heard the girth buckles carried on gently got it done up scratched all round top of her leg she was relaxed top lip quivering then she dozed off with the saddle on she wasnt tied up so could have walked away. today same again and no reaction at all totally relaxed eating hay girth done up phew! Not saying we are there and it cant all go wrong but ... hope you have a good time at the Royal Windsor

I just gave human ranitidine, which you can get cheaply in Boots/supermarket, or I got 2 bottles of 150 mcg tablets on ebay for £15-ish. I think they were 90 tablets in each.

I took mine xc training on Sunday - he had a blast! Vids were put in Comp Riders on Apr 20th, if anyone wants a look.

I have approximately half a bag of Gastro Plus if anyone would be interested to try it? Open to offers as just sitting in the feed room, full bag cost £200 plus postage!!

I have a full bag of GP i.e. it was a double sized bag & I've used less than half, if anyone wants it. It was a custom formula for Trev, so not sure if it would be any good. I also have half a tub of acid-x. Free to collector, or might be persuaded to post (bit scared of the grumpy lady at our rural post office).

The scoping would have cost less than a month's supply of the supplement.

I have used gastro plus and it worked on my horse whom would of been PTS if someone had not recommended this product to me, i had 6 weeks of gastro guard antespin and anti biotics which didnt help her. She was in a major bad way with ulcers she did 2 months on gastro plus has she was very sick and i gave her time off due to her been unridable and give her chance to grow up too, she has come back fantastic and back riding her and just started jumping her and all going well and i do keep her on a maintance product. I do have a video of when she was poorly and i went to a show last Sunday with pictures of her now and competing will try and post them for you so you can see the difference xxx

Thats great Fuzzle to have got your horse so well after she was so poorly you must be over the moon with how well she is now. I am still hopeful and have put the saddle on again and did girth up quite firmly with no reaction and no reaction to being groomed on RH side the real test will be a short ride then its usually the next day the girthyness starts. I think I will cry if it does and cry if it doesnt! LL the calming cookies you can buy a trial for £14 enough for 4 times and a full bag if I remember was about £60 but I cant remember how many cookies were in the full bag., good luck with your horse. xx Catembi was going to look in comp riders but not sure where it is .

I have a mini Shetland who is about as 'not likely to get ulcers' as it gets….. she never gets stressed (about anything) has high fibre feed, lots and lots of turn out, doesn't get worked etc etc but get ulcers she did- which then caused her to have really bad colic this time last year- thought I was going to lose her….
She was put on gastroguard and did really really well….. vet advised stopping and 1 week later was collicing again….. back on gastroguard and all fine again…… tried stopping again and hey ho colic again….

She is now on omeprazole ' the actual drug in gastro guard' but as GG is soooooooo expensive I buy it online from the USA- its called AbPrazole (same drug Omeprazole) but comes as little blue pellets in a small sachet and is way way way cheaper the GG (and easier to give)

She now has this every day and is totally fine….. for those who respond to GG it might be worth looking at

Have never tried the Gastro Plus- might have a look at it but it sounds very expensive compared to my AbPrazole??

My boy had Grade2&3 Pyloric and Squamous Ulcers, took 4 months to clear and stayed clear for over a year til I changed his Ulcer Supplement towards the end of last year.He started showing similar signs when ridden as before and after a lot of investigation decided to try the Gastroplus.Within a week my horse was back,he then went onto the Stomach Maintenance with Calmer and is fantastic. So many people even my trainer cannot believe it's the same horse. The bag of Gastroplus is not expensive compared to GG and then the maintenance is about £88 for 80 doses and the horse needs 1 scoop a day so you have 2 1/2 months supply. As my husband says-by the time I had bought his Ulcer Supp,Probiotics and Calmer powder each month, the Stomach Maintenance is cheaper
