Well set off early this morning. show jumped at 11.00, warmed up well but had six down. he jumped well thou so a bit disappointed.

then for XC at 1.30. he warmed up well and got very excited at the start. flew over the first two then steadied for fence three which he popped nicely. Lovely over four and then short at 5. fence six was two houses on a hill. great through here, 7 was a wall turning to a skinni upright, no problem. 8 was a sheep feeder, 9 a roll top then two steps down, no problem, galloped to 10 which he jumped out of his stride. then came 11, a upright roll top two strides to a corner, popped the upright then just didnt make two srides, he ran out, represented, ran out again, represented and same happened, he just didnt want to know, he just switched off which he has never done before!

So I am baffled as to what happened, not sure if something is wrong or he is just being naughty. Thoughts please?

Oh poor you
frown.gif

After such a great dressage too.

Was it a corner with brush on top? Has he ever jumped a similar corner before? Sounds like he didnt understand what he was being asked?

ah so sad to see the E when I looked earlier, as it's out of character maybe he just needs a little holiday to feel refreshed again?... what are you plans for him for the next few weeks?... very well done to even get there in the 1st place don't forget that achievement and your section looked like a who's who of eventing!!! chin up chick

It was jus the one corner this year no brush involved. Really dont know what happened, He just didnt lock onto it.

Thanks Chloe, we are entered for Hartpury 1* next weekend which is where our season was ending, not sure what to do now.

oh no...how frustrating! as Boss says if its out of character maybe he just didn't understand the question being asked? did others have the same problem at this fence?
smile.gif

Yes maybe it could be that simple, its just he will normally try even if he gets it wrong.

A few had the odd run out here but problems seems to be spread over the course

i'd just chalk it up to a bad day (we all have them
grin.gif
) and focus on hartpury next week then...maybe get a schooling session in if you can- but just try not to make a big issue of it

i agree with diggerbez, fwiw.
if you've already had a run out at a corner, it is a nightmare coming back round to the same one again. (i never did get my A mare over the corner on the OI track at Gt W years ago, we had run-outs there 2 years running and there was no way she was ever going to jump the bloody thing... she never had a run out at any other corner at any level! i went past it 2 wks ago walking the N course and gave it a very wry smile... just one of those things. your lad could be the same.)
brilliantly well done on getting there, well done on good dr, and i know it is prob very very cold comfort, but at least it didn't happen when you were leading the dr and on clear sj, at least you got a bit of crap out of the way on the same day!
don't fret about it, do what a Pro would do and put it out of your mind, school over 1 or 2, and let it go!

I thought it was a big corner!!! I personally wouldn't worry about it, try and ignore it and look at Hartpury through fresh eyes, I'm sure you'll be fine there. By the time I got to the corner there was quite a big crowd there, maybe something just distracted him?

Saw the E on the results and felt sad for you but what an achievement to even be there. No advice to offer as to why it happened but definitely agree with everyone else re putting it behind you. You came home safe so make sure you have fun at Hartpury x

Hey hon!! As the others have all said - keep your chin up! Frankie is a dude and has been foot perfect up till now - one blip on his record is not the end of the world and it had to happen at some point! Take massive positives from the dressage and go practice over some corners!! Good luck at Hartpury!!

Hi, sorry I didnt get to meet you today.
I watched you on the the big screen in the showjumping. He looked awesome till there. On the screen it just looked like he didnt understand and then wasnt up for it. It just looked like you lost the umpfh and couldnt get it back, there didnt look like there was any mallace in it but it didnt look like you could of got him over.
To be fair ALOT of the advanced horses had trouble there and a fair few of the novice horses skipped of the edge.
Silly big red spooky corners. You did look very cool till there tho

I have been told many times today, "The bad days are what make good days great".
Sorry to hear about your day! I can sympathise.
New dun horse, (6yo, first event - pre-nov) was second going out XC having done a nice test and SJ clear, then was eliminated at a corner, just didn't want to know! I think he scared himself at prev. fence - skinny to water, and that was the problem. So we are going back for a school tomorrow!
First time I have ever had to do the long walk home, totally feel your pain.
Well done for even getting there - such an accomplishment! Hope things take up for both you and I!

Right now, I'm comforting myself with a nice chinese!

Best wishes.

I was really sad to see the E when i looked at results earlier. So sorry to hear you had bad day.....

Firstly huge congrats on being there, that in itself is a HUGE achievement. Such a shame about today but don't dwell on it. You know what a superstar he is and how well you've done to get there. Put it behind you and move on (just like a pro would do, as Kerilli said.

Soooooooooo much luck for Hartpury.

I am gutted on your behalf, but it would be far out of many peoples reach to even get there. AND horses are never considerate enough to save such moments for when it doesn't matter - was he a bit overwhelmed by all the spectators perhaps?
I'm sure you'll have great fun at Hartpury, forget about today - onwards and upwards!

Sorry it didn't go quite to plan. I'm sure he just didn't understand it. I would try and get schooling over some corners this week then kick on for Hartpury!

sorry to hear this babe maybe have him checked over?

dont worry about it just go to hartpury, enjoy the parties and have fun!

I was there today and watching at the steps and can tell you he looked ace through there and some made it look quite scrappy! He's very handsome in the flesh too!

Thanks for all your kind words of support and advice, it does help! My Instructor has said exactly the same things as you have all said!

A Plan has been made, KC clinic on tuesday will see how he feels, XC schooling wed's morning, just a quick warm up over a few fences then the corner (leyland court). Then head for Hartpury with this experience behind us (hopefully anyway!).

Thanks again x

I saw your XC round when I was walking the course and TB looked like he was flying round - he looked awesome! Then I saw the double refusal.........felt really bad for you. He looked great though and he was my mums favourite if that is any consolation!!!!

He was flying up till that point, I just think it was probably one of those unfortunate things. You did so well to get there, you haven't exactly had textbook prep with the shoulder op and all, so I would crack on with Hartpury if I were you as he looked fabulous up till that point, and the level is still new to you both.

Put it behind you - just one of those things I reckon.

I was stood by the steps down when you went through, and you looked fab! Saw you fly down to the corners and from a fair distance saw him run out a few times. I couldn't really see from where i was, but did look like he just didn't understand the question. And certainly not an easy one to get to once you'd had a run out the first time. Friend who was competing in the Novice said that distance rode so long.

Really shocked to see you result

To make you feel better when i walked course on friday nite with S-J we were at fence 11 for along time as the Pro were trying to work out lines etc... It was a huge question and they cause problem throught out the event.

I don't think F was naughty at all, but it's a big track at every level and the course is so compact and the questions keep coming.....

So chin up and look forward to hearing about Hartpury

So sorry to hear your result after all your hard work but it does sound like Frankie was having problems trying to understand the question that fence presented. Don’t dwell on this one fence, follow your plan of action from this and DO remember all the positives from the weekend. You did fantastically well to qualify for the finals – don’t forget what an achievement that was for you both.

The very best of luck for Hartpury and I'm sure you’ll be back on track and finish your season on a high.

So sorry for you. As someone whose horse also picked up xc penalties for the first time last time out I can really sympathise. I have watched my video 100 times and just can't understand what happened - so just have to put it behind me and kick on. I guess though they are all horses and even the xc machines aren't really machines and may make mistakes at times or misunderstand things. Good luck this weekend and try to put it out of your mind.

I was so sorry but as KJick-on said it was a huge question at all levels and these things do just happen sometime. For some unknown reason Sarnie would not jump brush corners at Tweseldown this year and that is totally unlike her but no problem anywhere since. This weekend will be fine.
