Gate Jumping Competition - would you?

Me personally?? Not a chance in hell but then I'm scared to jump 2foot so not really my thing!! I wouldn't want my lad knowing he can clear a gate either...he did it once and got a splint from it so don't want him trying again!

Don't see any harm though if you are nuts enough to try it, it's no bigger a jump than most comps.

No way on this earth would I jump that - I do actually value my horses legs!! Then there are alot of things others jump that I wouldn't! Just seems to be asking for a nasty accident really?

I'm on the fence.
I personally would not but then I "don't jump won't jump" full stop! I'd be too worried about risk of injury if they knocked a gate.
However how is it different to XC or Hunting?

I'm a Woolley Jumper!

No way I'd jump that. The horse doesn't even have boots on. And..... why would you want to show them how to get out of a field?

If you were building a XC course would you use old, rusty, metal gates as jumps? Me thinks not.

Mad as hatters, the lot of them!

On a good jumper, and if it was a reasonable height I wouldn't have a problem jumping this!!!

On a baby or a horse I couldn't trust not to clip it I wouldn't though... I Second the preferring if it were wood person :)

As a child I used to jump a double of gates on my pony :o but they were at least wooden ones.

As a 5 bar gate isn't that high does anyone knows how they determine the winner?

Yes, in my younger days. The gate's not very big, and looks as though it's tied up with string anyway. Our one practice jump when I was a teenager was a wooden five-bar gate, with no wings, stuck out in the middle of a field. Evennow I'd have a go.

No way. I event, but any gates are wooden. Those gates are flimsy, rusty looking things - how horrid. Bl**dy dangerous IMO. I've seen what metal gates can do to a horse after one of mine kicked out and got caught in one.
