Just had an email from our Team SJ coordinator for the RC, so am 100% that the incident did occur - I have asked her to make sure that the incident is reported to the Police and Horsewatch...

Hi everyone,
Just had a phone call from a friend of mine to let me know some one tried to take her horses out of her field. The field is in Bampton they took the gate off. So could you put the word round to everyone you know to keep they eyes open. She thinks they are being stolen to order. She is one of the luckly ones. She is moving them now to her other field out of the area.
cheer's Bev

Oh god, thats a bit close for comfort- how scary for her at least they didn't manage to get her horse.
On a different but local subject is it true that several yards have strangles?

I'm based not far from you near Chipping Norton. Two nights ago our yard manager saw a white Leyland van parked up on the private drive that leads to the yard.

He went to investigate and in it were three Eastern European and one Asian men. When tackled, they said there were looking for work, but left very swiftly. Unfortunately YM didn't think to get the registration number.

We've reported it to the police. But obviously are very worried about horses/tack etc.

I still do not have any further info re: the gate incident, and as far as I can tell the owner STILL hasn't reported the matter to the Police, so I am not going to worry overly ATM!

Regarding strangles...I know 1 yard that deffo had it, haven't heard of any others - will PM you

Does anyone know where in Bampton this happened?

my horses are kept in Bampton and I also live in the village but haven't heard anything . I am also a member of horse watch and my daughter is in the riding club but heard nothing from them either.

Any updates?
thanks

I know nothing but what was posted back in June - as I said, it came from Bev, the senior SJ team coordinator for WORC but having heard nothing more I reckon there isn't anything to be alarmed about.

As an aside, I wonder if I know you

Our pony was stolen last July from Curbridge, we managed to find him, however approx 5weeks ago our eelectric fencing energizer was stolen, our pony was extremely nervous and an odd pile of hay left at the top of the drive. A sign of where to stop nr the field entrance i personally think.

After our previous experience, our pony was removed that day and has and will never return to the field.
