I've always have charles owen hats but really fancy one of these this time. What do people think of them before I take the plunge. Obviously I'll be buying from a shop where I can get it fitted. Just after people's reviews really :)
 
I'm on my second one now and I absolutely love them! Really comfortable and I lived to tell the tale after landing quite heavily on my head :p
The outside is quite slippy though, so you need to tape your silk on :)
 
Same! I have always worn Charles Owen and still use my velvet one for dressage and SJ, but have the Gatehouse HS1 as well now which I use for xc and every day and I love it. Also on my second one after a bad hunting fall but I'm sure it could have turned out much worse if I'd not had it.
 
I have always had Charles Owen skulls, tried on a hs1 and it just didnt fit my head shape at all even though the gatehouse conquest fits like a glove

How would you say the fit compares to the Charles Owen? I'm normally a 56 (6 7/8)
 
I have always had CO hats previously 56 too- and have had 2 HS1s of the same size. They have apparently made then grippier and do their own silks but have found the problem easily sold with some stick on Velcro (the hook side) on the front of hack
 
I'm on my second HS1 having replaced the first one after it definitely saved my life in the worst fall of my riding career. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone for jumping,hacking and everyday wear.

I do use a velvet CO for dressage comps though as it's a lot prettier!
 
I've always had Charles owen hats too. Last year I had to buy a new hat so I tried the gatehouse on, I only had to put it on for it to give me a horrid headache. It just does not fit my head shape at all. So I suggest you try one on and if it fits, great, so many people love theirs that they must be good! My head is just the wrong shape for them :) In the end I settled for the new Charles owen j3 jockey skull, and I must say that I absolutely love it! soooo comfy, light and airy, but feels very secure and I feel very safe in it :)
 
I took the plunge last year.and love it; so comfy to wear use it for everything.would recommend to anyone makes me feel very safe
