Following on from comments on GHE's post the other day about horse not looking 12k horse from photo, what would your comments on this one be?

Only comments I will give away are I have permisson to use picture, horse is over 13, and its an intro event...

See this is the hard thing - I have seen some older eventers who are out having fun but have previously been round 4*! They do not look the same as a bit thicker with age and not that hard fitness they would have had for 4*.

I have seen some amazing young horses with a fantastic looking jump in a photo but who are so spooky it has taken serious riding just to get to the photo.

A photo is just a moment in time and can be manipulated. Riders also tend to choose the best ones!

Yep- I can easily choose 3 or 4 photos which make our horse look terribly careful and a very competent and confident SJer over 1m+. He definitely isn't right now, and needs nannying along a bit- but the photos say a very different story!

The horse looks like an honest and sweet type, but you genuinely cannot judge pricing from one snapshot... If you posted photos of him going XC and doing dressage people might be able to play a bit better :D

i'd give no more than 3 grand for him, from this photo only of course! thats the problem with photos, you can only see the horse for what he is at that particular second! he looks lovely though x

If you think that a seller will only put their very best photos on an ad, it'd better be a very very good photo to make me sit up and take notice. The horse in your photo has very good technique in front, and is giving the fence quite a lot of height, but it's not very big. Soo, if that's the best photo they've got, then it's not terribly impressive (not for 12k!!) He does look a very nice horse for less money though :)

I don't think that the issue was with the picture not showing a £12k horse, although the pic wasn't a great one of the horse in general. The issue was more that £12k was a heck of a lot for an intro/pre nov horse.

This is a nice photo of a nice type of horse. Looks honest and experienced with a nice shape. For a 13+ intro horse, you're really looking £4-5k maximum.
