Gawsworth Track Livery

I also follow on Facebook. I really like the look of the yard set up, looks fab, what I don’t like is the way that barefoot is best and that shoes are awful is clearly the opinion.

Its a yard with hoof health in mind; specifically laminitics. How could nailing metal rims onto inflamed hooves woth damaged structures ever be a good thing?

I think you've completely missed the point of this yard and places like Rockley. The rockley blog would be a good place to start if you are genuinely interested in why these places are doing what they do and why they do what they do.

I know exactly why they do what they do and I agree with it. Having rehabbed a laminitic with severe rotation with heartbars they do work. Not all cases can be without shoes. Yes it would be brilliant if they could but realistically I doubt my guy would be here just now if he didn’t have them.

If I didn’t send my horse there (entirely my fault and I take the blame - he got too fat) he would have had to have been on strict box rest or on a tiny postage stamp on his own - no good for his mental wellbeing. I know I made the right choice. He didn’t and doesn’t have terrible feet, these places serve more than just the purpose of being anti-shoe. It allowed mine to lose the weight he needed to without compromising on his wellbeing - although he did come back with even better feet 😉

That would be my use for one as well - my 3yo is a right porker, currently at stud on good grass (and no hard food!) but now the bulk of his growth is done I’m considering this type of setup to help with weight management without having to overdo the workload whilst young. He’s going to be the sort you wouldn’t want turning to blubber turned away in the off season! I struggle with the idea of starvation patch’s / muzzles - these tracks are so much better for the horses brains, especially when in spells of not working
