Do you mean the gel-eze non slip pad? Yep I use them and have put them straight on the horse's backs out hunting and competing, just gives a bit more security
Yes I do mean the non slip have been using mine straight on horse's back and its been working a treat but just wanted to make sure u can use it straight on back thanks
My mother uses one, we recently did a 14 mile ride and when she took off his saddle and gel eze pad, his back was covered in raised lumps from the holes in the gel-eze pad, I dont think she will be using it again if it did that after only 14 miles.
I don't know this pad in particular but I have two reasons I don't like gel pads. The first is that if you press your fingernails into the pad you can clearly feel them through the pad - the gel moves away from pressure too easily, not what you want from a pad. They have also been shown in some cases to generate heat spots - there have been reports even of horses suffering burns to their skins.
If you need a non-slip pad I'd say that saddle fit and girthing still needs looking at, for shock absorption use sheepskin, and if your saddle fit needs temporarily altering then the Mattes correction system, which can be added to any Mattes pad, is your go to.
