This might be a numpty question (many of mine are) but if you put gel pads on for a bruised sole (on vet's advice), would you expect to see an improvement immediately? Or does it take time for the bruise to heal and the pads just give a bit of protection whilst it heals?

Very tempted to keep writing heel then!

Gel pads onto what exactly? Shoes? Boots?

A bruise is a bruise. It'll be a bit sore for a few days and will heal in time. Pads protect and stop it hurting while walking or doing whatever is it you want to do.

Had this problem with my TB 2 summers ago when weather excessively wet. Soles got very soft from being out on wet ground 24/7. He wasn't hopping lame but was a bit tentative and sore for quite a while. Vet told me it can take weeks to recover from deep bruising - understandable I guess as they're weight bearing so much of the time

Won't therefore improve immediately as bruising will take time to heal but pads will protect soles as bruising subsides. Mine did benefit from them when bruising calmed down and was completely sound. Didn't have to have pads for very long at all once sound. I do manage him differently now and he'll come in overnight if we have sustained really wet conditions to give feet chance to dry out.

Thanks, it's not something I've come across before. I wonder whether mine's oddly the other way around, as the ground has gone hard around us lately so that might have caused it (or maybe it's the change from soft to hard?).

Gel pads are just for 1 shoeing and then will re-check. I was a bit worried that it didn't come right straight away - am feeling better now that maybe it'll take a little while.
