I am trying to find something to stop my saddle moving around and causing friction on my horses back. I have a gel pad which I have used between a thin (Nuumed everyday) numnah and my saddle. I was going to try it between the horse and the saddle but was worried it would slip. I have also seem Limpet saddle pads which say they are friction free and designed to prevent slipping.

Anyone any experiences of using similar? My mare does tend to get rather hot, so I was also worried that this type of product would make her sweat more and cause more movement.

Thanks!

I havent used a limpet pad personally, but know someone that did, used between saddlecloth and horse, never seemed overly sweaty when untacking.

Just make sure you wash it after every use tho!

have you had your saddle checked? does it fit and is the flocking level? a gel pad and saddle moving about doesnt sound too good - maybe time to get a saddle fitter in?

My saddle has been checked by a very good saddler and still has some movement. Am also thinking of going down the gel pad/prolite pad route....

My first port of call would be the saddler as most of the time this is the case, but not always, some horses saddle will have slight movement however well it fits as I am sure KatBs does.
My god mother has a ISH I ride quite a lot, and he has had 3 different saddlers out to his M2M jump saddle and his Albion dressage as there is slight movement at the back of both- they have all said the same thing- that it is not the saddles, just the way he moves

Back to the original post- you could try re-arranging your girthing as this sometimes helps (ie use 2nd third one side and 1st and 2nd the other) if not limpet pads are very good. I have never had a problem with them getting to hot underneath

My saddle has been fitted but my mare has very sensitive skin and a big movement for a cob. She starts to twitch almost as if she has a fly on her, we have had her skin checked, saddle checked, ridden in different saddles etc and it seems to be when her coat gets ruffled by any slight movement. I have a similar problem with rugs - I can only use ones with 'shiny' linings which do not seem to cause friction. If she has a cotton lining, she will look colicy, twitching, rolling, rubbing, kicking and biting at herself - take the rug off and she is fine!

I am therefore trying to find something that will not move and cause friction, so any ideas much appreciated!
