I put a post up in comp riders yesterday about Dexters pads, he was shod Friday and no a bit footy due to having the gel pads (blck ones) that heat up to dry and have made him sore

Thing is I have an event Friday so need him sound and to be riding him!

Do you think it would make any difference to have the pad taken out? Or is it just a matter of time for it him to become sound?

Any help appreciated! Farrier is out in about an hour to take the nails out and see if there are any tight ones, if not its the pad

Havent done an event in a mth boo hoo!

i don't know... must admit, i have had them in Katy's fronts for the last 6 weeks and she's going slightly short in front on both. Farrier coming today to take them off!
they shouldn't make them footy, they should improve things, i thought, but perhaps the full sole pressure feels odd to some horses. farrier is the best person to advise obviously! hope he comes sound.

he has had them a few timessages b4 so is used to the pressure on his soles.

will just wait and see

am so p****d off!

Winston wore those pads one summer, they were ace in that they protected his feet but they gave him pussy foot about 5-8 times that summer

I went back to the traditional leather (which I had used for 2 years before changing to the gel) and *touches wood) never had pussy foot again.

He rarely pulls a shoe where as he will lose those damn expensive pads every couple of weeks

I tried this spring to go without pads as his feet have improved 200% to what they were when I bought him, but he soon felt footy, so back to leather and we're all sound again

I have fingers x your boys is sorted for Friday.

I hope he comes sound too, will let you know what the farrier says.

BBs - thanks for that will ask him about the leather pads.

Farrier has been and pulled out every nail and no soreness so it isnt a tight nail just the pad in that foot.

So he is staying in today and tomorrow then I will try and ride him tomorrow night, if sound tom i'll take him Friday so fingers crossed!
