I went up to the yard yesterday and found my gelding had blood on his belly and legs. Got him into the stable and there was a lump of skin. On closer inspection, the skin was a flap of skin he had pulled off and he had quite a deep and long cut on the inside of his sheath. Ouch.

I have cleaned it with hibiscrub, put some dermoline on it and lathered him up with green oils gel.

Is there anything I have missed and has anybody else had this happen?

Thanks

Mine came in from the field a few weeks ago with a triangle shaped flap about 1 1/2 inches long torn on his sheath. We just sprayed it with blue spray and left it be, it dried up and healed fine. This was only superficial skin though.

Hope ypur lads ok.

I would call the vet jus to make sure there no infection, my mare came in the other day with cut in her privates, she healing ok now vet said there was no infection and just to keep it clean.

She just feeling sorry for her self now as she want to be out playing with her friend. x

Thank you all

I went up to see him this morning and he was covered in blood, cleaned up the wound and got the vet up.

He needed surgery to remove the flaps of skin. I cant believe Jake stood still and as good as gold whilst local anaesthetic was injected into his sore and swollen privates. The vet was very impressed too.

So not only is he a gelding, he has just has a circumcision! Poor Jake.

I am going back up later to check on him as he is feeling a bit sorry for himself. He will be in for the next few days to give his wound chance to heal.
